Underground railways little disrupt major city centres. Our crowd of cabbages have plenty of fancy labs on that regard. No action. Funny that

They cause tonnes of disruption when they're being built

Its coming, you only have to look at all the different factor growth predictions, inflation, interest rates, consumer confidence and other CPI measures for output not to mention how countries like Germany, the UK and the US are all in a lot of bother which will hit us even more with our open economy. We have also not felt the full pain yet of increases in energy or food which will be coming soon. The only thing keeping the boat from tipping over so far is employment which I expect to see heading north as SMEs hit the wall while trying to deal with the loss of covid payments, paying back the money they didnt have to pay during Covid (their payment holiday), increase in labour cost (knock on effect of the minimum wage increasing), increase in energy and other inputs (food, travel, fuel, etc), increase in VAT in some sectors that had it at the low rate of 9% which will be increasing and also the option of getting a loan to get through the the next 12 months being a hell of a lot more expensive due to interest rates. Anyone thinking we wont see a recession in the next 6 to 12 months is kidding themselves.

Yet they can do just that for a cycle lane (C2CC) there in Fairview? Sorry how much road tax do cyclists pay? Yeah it not chicken and egg we have paid money through the nose in taxation for a decent public transport system and it has not been delivered. Yet the cyclists can have a main artery on the northside going into the city center choked to accommodate them. Why are more busses not been put on in rural areas.

There is no joined up thinking from this government and its not just the "ah lets slap a carbon tax on deisel/petol" ye know on a commodity that the vast majority of the population has no other alternative but to use due to the government not pumping taxes into public transport but can we give ourselves a nice pay rise this year ah sure make it rain with the cash come public sector pay rises. I was listening to that lying toe rag last night Norma Foley, she was asked questions with regards to her engagement with Bus Eireann and the gobsh1t decision to allow free public transport for all kids and she said she thought that they could handle it , She was asked directly did she engage with Bus Eireann, her response "ah they did a great job during covid", she was asked again and the amount of sh1t coming out of her mouth was disgusting how our politicians can bare face lie and get away with it is just horrendous and lets be clear not all kids who are approved for a place or met the criteria to be on the bus has one. I know 2 families out my way with kids with autism and they have no place so Foley is a bear faced liar. Its this kind of stupid thinking from the government that keeps happening. They have a brain wave of oh lets give every kid free transport without doing any due diligence or knock on effect and it is the same with an introduction of carbon tax on petrol / diesel with no other valid alternative for the vast majority of people living outside of a major city not to mention the fact that petrol / diesel is already after going through the roof in cost. So is that mature enough for you?

The government policy will be to throw money at it and hand a broken, bankrupt country over to SF.

€6bn exchequer surplus for the year. What do you want them to do with it?

What would you do if you were in charge?

Yup, that is precisely what was tried in Sri Lanka. That experiment did not end up well. With less fertilizer there will be more acreage needed to maintain the same output. With rising fuel cost it will simply make food more expensive and if people would not be able to afford it farmers will have nobody to sell to.

Wont be a much of help for the people already on the bottom. I do not know how many exactly but a lot of people do have prepay system where they have to top up their meter to be able to use electricity. These are usually the poorest people so that "no disconnections" is a bit irrelevant since they will be disconnected anyway if they do not prepay their electricity. Usually worst and the most expensive rates out there anyway.

Knowing the government they will blow is trying to build 2 modular homes.

So to answer the question I would make sure the current government had no access to it. Let someone with a plan handle it.

True, but the real elephant in the room when it comes down to is to this green policy here of reducing cattle numbers in dairy herds. Like much of everything else they advocate, the cart is in front of the horse to start with.

The E.U. dropped the milk quota system because of the growing demand for milk and milk products worldwide had risen to the level that it was unfair on E.U farmers as it hampered them being able to compete. That demand is still rising and project to continue doing so.

All cattle produce the same gases regardless if where they are in the world. The real problem with emissions is not with Irish dairy farmers, or E.U. farmers for that matter. It`s with third world farmers where it takes multiples of cows to produce the same quantity of milk. The same is true for meat and we have already seen where all this is leading. We are supposed to reduce our herds by anything up to 2 million catle while just one country alone, Brazil, the slash and burn merchants, intend increasing their number by 24 million.

It`s nothing to do with emissions where Irish greens are concerned. It`s just another of their ideologies that make no sense. Even the E.U. agriculture commissioner said their concerns are more for food security than cattle numbers.

    1) C2CC isn’t a cycle lane project. It’s the replacement of 6km of water mains, with a cycle lane built on top.

    2) No one pays Road tax in Ireland.

Buses are not put on in rural areas because rural living is not sustainable.

and putting carbon tax on top of VAT on top of already over the top prices for diesel and petrol is not sustainable - people will have to make choices like not dropping their kids to school.

Try reading beyond the first line, for once.

No one pays car tax in Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,600 ✭✭✭fliball123

So no motor tax in Ireland really and you said its not a cycle lane and that is exactly what it is first line anyone can look at the link and just see how full of sh1t you are. Does anyone else agree. Look the link to the C2CC and anyone who has a car will tell you that you pay motor/car or road tax for the car.

Are you sure you live in Ireland.

People will have to make other longer term choices like not living 20kms from a town up the side of a mountain.

There is no car tax and no road tax in Ireland. We have a motor tax, a tax on the emissions coming out of your motor. Bicycles don’t have motors so they don’t pay motor tax. Which bit are you struggling to understand?

Bike lanes projects don’t take 18 months and €60 million budgets. DLR put in a bike lane in Clonskeagh over two months, with road closures and a budget of under a million.

Try to exercise a little bit of common sense and see if you can join up the dots.

So is a global recession on the horizon or not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,600 ✭✭✭fliball123

Does everyone who owns a car pay motor tax - yes they do most people will use car tax, road tax or motor tax to signal the same tax, your being more pedantic than usual. People cycling bikes should pay for the upkeep of the roads. You also need to read the C2CC its spouts about the "greater dublin area cycle network" yada yada. Its a phucking cycle and bus lane.

Here is another link from DCC

That interview with Foley was a disgrace. I haven't seen such a poor performance in years. She clearly refused to answer straight questions and by doing so, we knew what the truth was. Ministers should not be allowed get away with that dishonesty.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    Ah the Mythical Road Tax.

The website address I always thought would make it simple for people to remember what they are actually paying. I always remember it when I pay it anyhow at:
