It matters. The truth matters. It matters because if you need to twist reality, or outright bullshít, even couch such bullshít in manipulative ways in an attempt to gain favour to fit one's position, one's position is too easily argued down as the propaganda it is by those in opposition to you and the same dignity you seek for those you claim to represent is in more danger from those you actually need to convince.

If I frame a truth in bullshít, which do you smell first and which smell lingers longer? If I drop twenty Smarties into a cowpat, or offer you one Smartie from the tube, which would you eat? You don't fight ignorance with a lie, not matter how sure you are of the truths within, or how right you think your positin is, that just leads to more lies on all sides. That's why it matters.

The Gemma O'Doherty level of debate - claim anything that exposes the scummy nature of the far right is a 'false flag' attack. Absolutely despicable.

not really if you look at the twitter profile picture and the woman in the picture. Look Very very very similar.

    So what?

It matters to those who want to play pedantic games to attack basic rights for a small minority of people.

not really the long sleeves hide the tattoos. And the thing is when doing something like this at least make it credible most far right groups don't have swastikas. Smacks of the same BLM Antifa stuff in the past churches attacked find out it's one of the church goers. plenty of stuff done in relation to this nonsense. You would have thought they would video them and harass them no ?

You're making the assumption I'm attacking such rights. Of course you are. Any question is automatically framed as dissent, even though I have never once suggested Trans people should be attacked, or not given rights. Quite the opposite actually. And your only answer is so what? This is the all too usual if you're not 100% with Us, you're 100% against Us level of small minded ballsology.

When a movement, or worse a society, however well meaning it thinks it is, or actually is, starts to see reality as pedantry and falsehoods as fact just because they happen to advance the cause de jour, that's what's actually dangerous. Because that's when a society is asked to take things on as faith not fact. That never ends well.

I think in the US "left" is used as an insult for people who are socially liberal.

It has no meaning in economic terms, which is what it has mostly been used for in Europe.

Unfortunately, as European socialist parties turned into solid supporters of our current version of capitalism (even rolling back a number of gains made in the past; one that immediately springs to mind in Ireland is the way that the same minister who brought in free 3rd level education supported the reintroduction of university fees), they too turned to the idea that leftwing meant supporting socially liberal issues (valid issues in themselves, I might add) as a way of remaining relevant.

I dunno I actually know real liberals in the USA talk to them often hippy types remember them. Most if not all of the new stuff they just laugh about it. The old ideas of free love live and let live are well dead now it's safe spaces, can't be challenge in college. I have a right to be outraged. Also I can say what I like as I have not filter #bekind and alike. basically a 6 year old in an adults body the new left has become.

ANd I'd agree with you. But there's a lot of hysterical nonsense on both sides. A boy can never be a girl v if the boy wants to be a girl then it must be so!

As I've said before - up until the age of 16, if it can't be reversed easily and quickkly and without harm to the child then it should be banned.

Pronouns can be very easily reversed, though.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

So? And I have met them

Do we personally need to meet them for them to have the same human rights as us?

You could have met them and never known. How many people just talk to you about their genitalia or their chromosomes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,725 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

”most far right groups don’t have swastikas”

and so it follows that some do - butchering the point you were trying to make.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,779 ✭✭✭✭Princess Consuela Bananahammock

That;s only one in five hundred - and you'll meet more than 500 people over the course of your life.

I've met four or five in probably way more than two thousand.

Swastikas is only a sign of Nazi Germany, not of fascism.

And the reason they don't have them is usually because they're banned in a lot of places.

The vast majority of those who identify as Trans have the perfectly normal genitalia and chromosomes of the gender they were assigned at birth. A large proportion of actual chromosomal Intersex people aren't even aware of it. Of the rest a majority identify as their gender assigned at birth. The Intersex argument conflating Intersex with Trans is a red herring. IMHO for the Trans lobbyists to frame a medical/congenital cause around Trans and make it somehow more "acceptable" to their critics and supporters. The previously linked article with the wildy innacurrate spin along those lines a good example of it.

This does NOT mean being Trans isn't a congenital condition. I personally suspect with better brain mapping and said mapping more defined along the subtle differences between men and women we will find that Trans do indeed have brains that more fit the gender they feel themselves to be. In essence they have "intersex" brains and the minds that follow from that. Though I further suspect that with more accurate brain mapping we will also find a fair percentage of those who identify as Trans don't.

What a bunch of hogwash: “there aren’t many of them so they don’t matter and even if they do I wish that we will prove that it doesn’t matter with future science powered by Hopium”

That was the good old usa. They even got the uniform wrong The army boots look way more soviet and the high thin military pants also. Guess they only had so much in the budget for larping. Far right would be out in proper stuff flack vests and alike also armed as we have seen loads of times hardly ever in Black. That Antifas MO. What self respecting gun nut does not even have a weapon.

Ohh I dunno man, I mean, that’s a fairly uncharitable interpretation of Wibbs post that was intended in good faith in all fairness. I dunno ‘bout the accuracy of brain mapping in the future, but if that’s what constitutes a hot take, then you may want to don a pair of oven mitts before handling this absolute scorcher 😂

Wibbs didn’t say it, but one of the prerequisites of brain mapping, is that there has to be a brain to be mapped in the first place. Good luck finding that person’s brain, it’s out to lunch 😒

    For context -

(may want to grab a strong coffee before reading, lest it fry your brain trying to make sense of the whole drama 🥵)

“Woke” is or has become a catch all label used by simpletons to instantly dismiss a viewpoint or person when they don’t have the intellectual capacity to express a coherent argument or dispassionately assess the facts of an individual situation. Bizarre aspect is it seems to give them a sense of intellectual superiority.

    “But but but woke libtards”

Woke is an English adjective meaning "alert to racial prejudice and discrimination"

Seems to me,those who throw it around as an insult, use it as a type of modern curse word tbh

This is another aspect I've long noticed. Can't argue point, runs to censure from authority. I've also noted it's far more common among the Right On. As is can't argue point, run to deflection and misrepresentation. The post you thank and seek to defend in your cause a very good example:

Can't point out anything that isn't factual, calls "hogwash". Then twists it around to claiming I said there aren't many so they don't matter. I did say that the Trans lobby are using dubious even bogus stats around Intersex people and bending that to the cause, like the author of the linked article a page or so back. And that this is a mistake for the same cuase as it can be so easily pointed out and does little for Trans people. Then he makes an olympic record level leap to this means Trans people don't matter. Something I didn't say, never said and wouldn't say. I have repeatedly stated in this thread and others that Trans is real, Trans people should have the same rights as everyone else, so long as those rights don't impinge on the rights of others(eg Trans women in sport), just like everyone else. That Trans people likely have Intersex brains and as research goes forward we'll be able to spot this and come up with better therapies.

So there are really only three choices here: Either they didn't read my post, they did and imagined what I wrote, or they're lying about what I wrote.
