Looking for an American Doberman

Hi there. Hoping to get a Doberman soon, but preferably the American breed as they are more of a family dog than the European, and this will also be my first time owning a Doberman. Is there many American dobermans around Ireland?

Are you aware that the law in Ireland is that Dobermans must be on a lead and muzzled at all times when in public? It’s something to think about when deciding if a Doberman is the right breed for you. They’ll need a LOT of exercise, and if you want to let them run off lead, then it’ll need to be on private property, so they wouldn’t be well suited to an urban lifestyle in many cases

You may already have found it, but doberman planet on YouTube is a great resource on advice for Dobermans.

Would be good to hear how you get on in your search. Am interested in Dobermans but will be getting a rescue first.

There is only one Breed as such but different lines/types. If you contact the Breed Club & mention you prefer a dog with American lines, they might be able to help. We follow FCI standards here. The American dog type in many breeds tend to be flashier imo but not always as breed type functional.

To be honest getting from a Reputable Breeder who health tests & properly socialise's their puppies is equally as important as the breeding behind a dog. The new puppy owner also has to continue with this in order to hopefully have a sound family dog.

I don't think rescues can be named here but a rescue in South Dublin has a Doberman who are looking for a foster home with the hopes of making it permanent. Male 2-3yrs. 😉
