Loud Siren?

Hi guys, I was camping in Clonakilty at the weekend.. Beautiful spot. In the very early hours of Sat morning there was an unmerciful sound, sounded like an air raid siren.. It was super loud, sounded like it was coming from the town but probably not. It only went off once, just wondering does anyone know what it was? I was guessing the oil refinery but that's a good bit away 🤔

Did you ask the campsite. They will have been the one to ask

Yeah you'd seldom hear one in a city as it's drowned out by everything else. Near a small town it will be heard for miles.

Cities tend to have full time firefighters who don't need to be summoned from their day jobs by a siren.

In 1982 I was on holiday in Dunmore East with my parents, the Falklands War was on and when I heard the firefighter siren go off I thought WWIII had started.
