Apologies if this has been asked before but I moved to Electric Ireland in March this year via bonkers. Assume I am locked in even though they are changing the rates all the time because the 'discount' does not change for 12 mths?

I can't move again before March 23 right?

If you break the contract you will be liable for €50 per fuel (so €100 if its dual fuel) plus you will return any welcome bonus you received.

Your understanding is correct, you signed up for a fixed discount rate with a variable unit rate.

I’m the same. Inputted my 2021 kWh and this plan was recommended too. Have you switched? Are Flogas ok to deal with?

My kwh for year was 4482, and i am all electrical, that's from sept 2021 to sept 2022. Not switched yet, don't know anything about flogas, so that's why i ask are they any good

Flogas user here. Out of contract but will be renewing with them. Find them grand. Never had any issues with them.

Bear in mind that FloGas is the only supplier that hasn't announced price increases in the latest round of increases.

I have dealt with them for commercial electricity one building with multiple metres and they have been an absolute nightmare to deal with. Granted there are a lot of moving parts and the invoicing requirement for a business is stricter than a domestic supply. Dealing with them for only one metre should be fine in theory and probably best to gauge it on people with domestic experience of dealing with them.

And so did Electric Ireland announce an increase effective 1st Aug & has now announced a further large increase effective from 1st Oct. I will be surprised if Flowgas don't do likewise.

    Update from my own searchings.

With Electric Ireland, contract expiring, didnt get a great deal to stay. Switched to SSE. Price hike. Unswitched. Watching prices around, Flogas the definite winner but assume it will hike soon too.

Rang EI back today and after one pushback they kept me on the 30% discount which will be 30c incl vat per kw post oct increase.

So thats me done for the year..... or for my cooling off period!

Just switched to Flogas. I assume they will shove another price increase within the next 14 days. I’ll then ring electric Ireland and see if they can beat it

    Wishy Washy response, received :

They admit that their accreditation of a switching site 'will provide credibility to the website provider and instill consumer confidence in the service', but very conveniently they have no remit to investigate when their generously offered implied credibility is questioned.

You were right.... PR waffle because they are next to useless when it comes to protecting the consumer.

Thank you for your query which the CRU acknowledge.

Your query is important to us and has been redirected to the relevant specialised department for review.

Please note: The CRU has an ‘Accreditation Framework’, details of which are available at the following link: https://www.cru.ie/document_group/price-comparison-websites-accreditation-framework/

The framework contains a number of principles with which Price Comparison Websites (PCWs) must comply with to become (and remain) accredited by the CRU. Accreditation entitles a price comparison website to use the CRU logo on its website and to advertise its accreditation. The CRU will insert links to accredited websites from the CRU website. Accreditation will provide credibility to the website provider and instil consumer confidence in the service. Accreditation by the CRU is not mandatory for PCWs and the CRU also does not have any specific remit for ‘Auto Switching energy websites’.

While PCWs are accredited by the CRU, the CRU does not license them as it does suppliers in the energy market and therefore has no remit to investigate complaints filed against them. I would therefore advise that you contact the website directly in relation to this matter.

Seems the cashback offer from flowgas is gone off all plans. Damn

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,189 ✭✭✭✭GBX

Noticed that earlier. That'll push their plans higher now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,015 ✭✭✭Wisesmurf

Rang them, confirmed totally gone. The cashback made them cheapest for me. Now not. BGE now cheapest for me (post October)

Currently with Electric Ireland have to move even with the penalty. Here are my calculations with my usage. Flogas deal was great especially with the €440, but with that gone and I am sure they will increase their price. It looks like back to bord gais.

Are people switching during contract being charged €100 if moving both electricity and gas, i.e. €50 per utility?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,225 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Went with BGE, no point chasing cheapest deal as they'll all be upping their prices so got what seems like the best discount on offer. Was same pre Oct as post Oct.

Your formulas look wrong. You don't calculate carbon tax, PSO, or actually calculate tax in your calculations.

Yes,I was in contact with Flogas a couple of days ago to get my mams house back in contract.Said I'd get back after checking out the other offers.I got back today and the cashback was gone.

If you switch supplier and return within the 14 days are you eligible for the new customer discount or is there something in the terms and conditions that prevents this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,483 ✭✭✭✭zell12

You are not a new customer.

My contract is up with Electric Ireland in two weeks. I am looking at the Energia EV rate, I have a geothermal heat pump so use a lot of power during the night, I saw earlier posts about them not looking for proof of having a EV is that still the case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,187 ✭✭✭bren2001

They are not looking for proof. My sister signed up today.

Hard to tell from incorrect information, is it not?

Your sheet is easy to fix and will more than likely lead to the same outcome but your underestimating your costs. That's all I'm saying.

I'll fix the sheet if you want.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,799 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

I'm with them too and my contract is up in October. Are they not due another increase in price though? Did you get a discount by remaining loyal or just carried on at the same rate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,480 ✭✭✭wheres me jumpa

Think you have the wrong guy, I didn't post a sheet or formula.

    Apologies.

Why would I know what plan you should go onto? Depends on your usage and your electricity profile.
