Here’s hoping three sell it slightly cheaper like they usually do

Pretty set on buying my first iPhone. Always felt there was certain things iOS done better than Android like power management but excited by the always-on display and new camera.

So, whats the pre-order experience on Apple's website like? Is it a Ticketmaster like experience or something more calm ?

Last few years have been fine, log on just before 1pm, order your phone, and it's with you on launch day next week.

If you leave it till 2pm you'll be pushed out by a few days/a week.

Any sign of the network's putting up pricing?

Seems like Vodafone still linking to the iPhone 13 on their splash page...

I can see the auto dialing of 999 causing increased pressure on emergency services if it went off for every fender bender - i would guess its rare in ireland there would be an accident where the noone is around to call ambulance if it needs it - but no harm I suppose having it. More suited maybe to countries with lots of wilderness and remote areas.

Anyway isnt this feature supposed to be built in all new EU cars already as well?

The "always on" feature on the screen is a nice feature but I suspect it has to impact battery life to some degree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,884 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Always on screens have been around for years on Android. When turned on they do drain the battery a bit but not massively.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 235 ✭✭Bradz213

It will drain the battery a bit but the phone has a low 1Hz refresh rate so should help with power consumption.

So is the Irish 14 coming with a Sim tray?

I thought the Apple Watch would have forced some networks here to facilitate the data plan for it but it don’t really materialize. Here’s hoping!

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,986 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

Yes, it's only US iPhones that won't come with a sim tray.

What best to get a phone case?

I'm reading 13 (pro) case wont fit 14(pro)...bigger camera bump and moved buttons...

I would like it in a simple small bumper case from day 0 - where best get one in prep for launch day?

why would anybody bother getting the 14 ?

rebranded 13 is what its like to me , nothing worth upgrading from a 13 to a 14

How come the 13 pro Max isn’t available on the Apple Store app?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,431 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

14 Pro replaces the 13 Pro (from Apple at least)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 235 ✭✭Bradz213

I guess if like me you are buying your first iPhone or if you haven't upgraded in a few years.

Because they stop making them now. They need the 13 Pro A15 chips for the 14 and 14 Plus i Guess

They won't sell the 13 Pro because it would just cannibalise sales of the 14.

Normally only about €20 and for that its normally locked also

That’s why Apple never brought out like android

They didn’t want battery drain like android had due to higher refresh rates

Now panels have the technology to have 1hz refresh rates unlike android panels with variable refresh rates from 10hz to 120hz

As the feature will have a 1hz refresh rate the effect on battery life will be negligible

iPhone 14 Pro's 48-Megapixel Photos Take Up to Three Times More Storage Than 12-Megapixel Shots

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,986 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

Holy god, that's going to eat up storage at a rapid pace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,905 ✭✭✭ozmo

lol - That's just scaremongering - No one should take their photos in RAW mode for regular snaps. These are only for later editing in photoshop at the highest uncompressed quality.

I'm not sure it matters much? I have an XR with only 64GB and there's still ~12 GB free despite having about 10K photos on the phone.

Way back, when I noticed I was running low on space, I enabled some iCloud setting (don't ask me where it is) whereby the high res photos are stored on the cloud but the phone only keeps the lower res versions unless you explicitly fetch the high res version.

I'm upgrading from the iPhone X so this will be a huge upgrade for me, the euro cost is outrageous for the pro but I can justify it as I'll probably get another 5 years out of this one.

Gonna try order at 1pm - any ideas if the apple servers can usually handle the traffic?

  • Moderators, Regional South East Moderators Posts: 9,314 Mod ✭✭✭✭Aquos76

I’ve never had any issues on launch day ordering to be honest, I still can’t make up my mind which colour to get in the Pro Max, gutted I’ve only two options, the purple or the slate black or whatever it’s called. I loved the blue on the 12 pro max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,130 ✭✭✭ussjtrunks

1229€ direct from three is it worth the discount of I’m staying on three anyway?

Just ordered Black 128G/iPhone14 Pro Max

Coming from a 12pro max. My wife needs a new phone (iPhone 8plus). So she's getting my 12 pro max.

The dates of delivery are 27/09-04/10. I would have thought I'd get this earlier. If my memory serves me right, my 12 pro max had a similar date but shipped when the became available from 17/09.

    Does anyone remember?
