if you send it from the UK to Ireland VAT will be due when it arrives in this country.

Yes the device can't have the battery connected and you can't take the battery out of an ipad.

I lost a brand new phone to this before! They don't even return it to the sender. They destroy it! 😲

I'm not taking a chance on it again! Particularly with something worth a grand. Then there's the added pleasure of it sitting in customs for 6 weeks even if they did send it! The EU brought in new customs regs last June/July so everything coming from outside the EU takes weeks to pass through customs. So, I could attempt to send it but even if they have changed the legislation on lithium batteries, it would still take forever to get there and I end up paying duty here and then the recipient gets landed with additional duty at their end.

The best ones for sending to Ireland from the UK is Amazon as they take the UK duty off it, then add the Irish duty on it and send internationally. The problem is that I can't afford to buy the ipad outright so they're not an option.

    Thanks though.

Last september I sent 2 parcels to her. Posted on 20th September (estimated shipping time 3-5 working days). One was insured and tracked and traced, the other one was not insured, it was sent normal post. One parcel got to her (the insured one) on the 18th of October and the one sent normal post got to her on the 7th November! The insured one also landed her with customs fees and a VAT bill. Also, my brother sent something from Canada (a hat and scarf!) and that was returned to him for failure to pass customs lol. I'm not sure whether things have improved since then as it was a pure disaster for a few months. Anyone buying from Amazon.co.uk also had nightmares with customs fees/VAT (if they arrived!) or not receiving items at all. So Amazon changed how they handled shipments to the EU. For a while my mother had to use the German Amazon.de.

Can I ask are they from companies or individuals? Are they coming from the UK?

Maybe things have improved then. I suspect that the sheer volume of UK imports suddenly having to pass through customs might have caused a backlog for a while.

Basically you have to think of the ipad and the finance agreement as two different items. One item has 14 day cooling off period and the other item has a 31 day cooling off period. The fact that one item allows you purchase the other item is irrelevant.

Sorry if I am missing something but would it not be easier to either ask your daughter what colour she would like or pick one colour and just tell her that is it. Most likely she will need a case for the ipad.
