I think Instagram is a good way to communicate with the world. That is good for some people. Maybe you have something to contribute and want to share. Some ideas. Some events. Whatever.

Sending pictures of your holidays? The food you eat and so on? Come on!

Would you post your holiday picture?

I use it for photography but its a bit of a mess now with the reels. It's more focused on videos these days.

Someone I know uses it for promoting their comic artwork, and has made a lot of industry contacts and been involved in a number of projects and collaborations through it, not to mention having a good number of regular followers. It’s been a very successful tool for them.

I’m into photography (nature, macro, astro), and while that was Instagram’s original purpose, I find it an unholy mess and just can’t deal with using it. I much prefer being part of specific photography groups on FB, or specialist web forums.

It started as a photography app and a visual blog platform, which it still kind of is.

I used it for a while to share photos I really liked. I would take plenty of photos day to day. Most are sh*te, but the best would go to Instagram. It was a quick way to get updates on particular people or hobbies. A picture tells a thousand words.

It's become a Tik-Tok rival now with reels and videos and insta-famous people sharing the same mindless derivations of some trend. I stopped using it maybe a year back as there's no way to filter out Instagrams algorithm. The content creators that I liked started tailoring content for the algorithm and hawking VPNs, fitness gear, and website builders. It's sad but YouTube is going in the same direction with YouTube Shorts.

All the social media platforms are just rife with advertising with everyone pushing sponsored products. I'm getting sick of them all.

what was so great about websites? usually just mean a contact number & having to ring & listen for options to dial from a machine then listen to **** while being told your call is very important to them

Loved Instagram, but I’m a big fan of photography so no surprises

ive started to not like it so much, thanks to the fact that around 20-25 of every 100 photos in your feed, are advertising..simply boring…and constantly being bombarded with suggested pages to follow who are businesses…or sponsored or whatever terminology.

What prompted me to start this post was Conor McGregor.

I saw some pictures of him in Marbella/ Spain/Italy/The Costa Whatever.

He was walking around bare-chested. The little fella was full of swagger. The Prince of Narcissism.

I thought to myself why is a man posting a picture of himself bare chested? I just don't get it.

    This is obnoxious.

lots of excellent content just the Twitter attention seekers and businesses hooked their fangs into it and it’s not as good as it was…now I’m seeing Instagram are discussing their app and reels in terms of ‘leveraging’, ‘promotion’, ‘branded content’……this on actual Instagram posts to its users ffs.

just sharing photos, enjoying your friends content and visa versa, that’s what made Instagram… when it had no agenda and was fun , now like Twitter, it’s just full of pricks promoting things, a promotion, whoring and attention seeking platform instead of a photography platform…no longer as enjoyable….

People use Instagram for self promotion. Which is why I wouldn't use it as a photo sharing app.

In fact there is no good photo sharing app. The're all cr*p.

I started using it for photography years and years back when it was actually decent, now it's full of shite.

The shorts was the start of the decline, now with reels it's a bit too overwhelming and addicting.

Not to mention everyone had turned into big vain droids who only ever post the same "ooo look at me" shite.

It was always that but in the beginning it was cool trendy and novel. Now we've had 10 years of it give or take. It's old hat.

The reels are piss, worst idea ever….

No idea what it's like for someone under 25 or whatever(probably more like under 20) but people also became way more cynical about social media as the decade progressed. The whole point of these apps was about connection but people then came to the realisation that they had no interest in seeing what somebody they were in school with who they haven't spoken to in 10 years is doing. That meant that they had to provide another niche which was basically exploiting our consumerism and self-hatred which is why its full of fitness and entrepreneurship and makeup tutorials.

And also a good meme is hilarious but the mainstreaming of memes has killed them imo. I miss the og ones.

Google in 2020 was worth $1210 Billion.

why it just couldn’t leave Instagram alone, for people who enjoy it… just wanted a popular platform to interject advertising to.. make ££$$££$$££$$££$$

Just turned into TikTok. I use it less and less these days it's pretty toxic carry on. I do still update personal page with pretty holiday pictures and things nothing to serious, and it's useful for business pages, but the less time I spend on it the better. I do use it more than facebook now, which is part of why Facebook bought it

I have a instagram account but I never uploaded anything to it ever and I get notifications every so often such as username started following you which I have no idea why they just follow me.

I go on it to look at the hot women.

I use it to show off my boobies too.

Then my girlfriend called me a fat b*stard and gave me a gym membership.

I'll show you my titties if you show me yours.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,184 ✭✭✭riclad

You can avoid YouTube shorts simply by not clicking on them, Instagram is simply trying to copy tiktok, by showing videos , reels, of course influencers are promoting merch or brands that's how they make money,

So it's no longer good as a photo app Instagram is owned by Facebook, not Google

. I just watch the channels I subscribe to on YouTube, and ignore shorts.

Facebook is losing users it simply hopes it can copy tiktok to hold onto young users or its simply desperate even if it turns off people who simply want to post photos
