Beside leaving documents laying around on the carpet(!), gotta love the framed Time magazine cover from 2019 on the right. Apparently it's the Democratic party nomination candidates, includes Beto, Yang, Bloomberg, ...

Apparently he spent Tuesday 29 Aug a.m. posting Q-anon nonsense and insisting on being reinstated. So, yeah, imo he actually, finally, truly has lost it.

It always amazes me how obvious it is that he is panicking and rattled by eventhe smallest slight, which of course these is far from, but that his supporters still see him as a person to lead them or stand up against the likes of Putin ad others.

He has completely compromised national security, not for the 1st time remembering is unrecorded and unattended meeting with Putin and his giving Israeli secrets away, lied about it, refused to give them back when requested and then besmirched the FBI and DOJ to try to paint them as the bad guys.

Trump supporters are so fixed on this mythical Hunter lap top, and anyone who disrespect America like Kapernick for kneeling, yet when faced with a massive security risk right in front of them not only are they happy to excuse it and blame the state itself, but actually want this guy to be POTUS

Reading their comments on other topics such as the invasion of Ukraine, immigration etc, it really isn't surprising that they still support him.

A twitterati did an analysis of the markings on the documents found on the carpet. They're as top secret as it gets, including 'human sources' stuff. The twitterer described it as a "National Security Hindenberg."

Yet, even with tweeting Qanon crap, leaving dangerous documents around for who the fcuk ever to look at, photo, etc., lie to the DOJ to obstruct their roundup of the documents, and even if TFG doesn't get the GQP endorsement, he'd still get tens of millions of votes if he ran again. Imagine the carnage if he got elected, too.

Makes me glad we moved to Ireland. FF/FG/SF aren't exactly a dream bunch, but jeeze, they're not completely bonkers. Well, perhaps a few exceptions to that but the bonkers ones aren't in positions of power.

Google have barred Truth Social from Google Play.

Google says the platform violates its policies on prohibiting content like physical threats and incitement to violence.

I know there'll be someone along to ask, "... then why not ban Twitter?" if not here, then almost surely some other platform. I would have thought TS would have some kind of hate speech policy to cover its arse. Then again, hate speech is kind of the point of the platform, sooo...

What is it going to take for the MAGA world to actually admit that rather than the whole world being a conspiracy against them, maybe, just maybe, Trump isn't their saviour?

Coupled with immense amounts of dunning kruger, a dangerous combo indeed.

I think the argument being made by Google is that the application itself doesn't have the required admin tools to allow for the appropriate moderation of the content to remove things like hate speech etc.

So not that it has "hate speech" per se , but that it doesn't have the tools to remove it if required.

Which isn't surprising , I'd say the actual platform is a shambles technically speaking.

Given that they aren't paying their hosting platform I can't imagine that they've spent big bucks on building out the system back-end.

or paying admins actually capable of moderating.

I think we are seeing a growing realisation that while Trump-esque/MAGA Republicans continue to do well in Republican primaries, overall, these MAGA Republicans won't do so well against Democrats. In the end, more people will be motivated to vote against them then for them.

So now, we see people like Shapiro and Coulter speaking to those who would vote for MAGA Republicans...they are the voting cohort that needs to be targeted, and convinced to move away from MAGA-style candidates. And then they need to be convinced to vote for more traditional or mainstream Republicans when up against Democrats. If not, the party is in serious trouble.

I really can't see the GOP bringing trump back into the fold. He won't part with his fundraising, nor will he toe the line as he will only do what's best for himself. He won't run because of the legal shenanigans and will label any GOP who won't support him in these troubles as Rinos (despite it being political suicide if they did support him), thus disenfranchising his hardcore base from voting at all, leaving the GOP with no funds and a significant drain on their voter pool.

I the the job they have in front of them is quietly dropping Trump and MAGA-style politicians without alienating (and losing as voters) those who currently support MAGA-style politicians. There will be a kind of weird 'Trump was good and you are good for supporting him but now it's time to move on, and we need you to beat the Democrats' message.

Trump's base need to be convinced to let him go....and that's a lot easier said than done.

Agreed , there is no "fold" to bring Trump back into . He only cares about himself and will do absolutely nothing to benefit anyone other than himself.

The GOP are stuck in a very difficult position , one that they created for themselves by sticking by him when presented with multiple opportunities to cut bait. A blend of avarice and cowardice has brought them to their current position.

Given all of the usual mid-term dynamics , the GOP should be looking at taking control of the House by a large margin and the Senate by 2 or 3 seats.

As a direct result of Trump and his never-ending bullshit they are likely to lose seats in the Senate and are currently just about hanging in there in the race for the House.

Other than just about sneaking the win in 2016 he has lost them every race since then.

It will be interesting to watch how the GOP messaging shifts now as more and more damning information comes out.

It's already started, in that they have moved to the "If Trump is prosecuted for this and Hilary wasn't for her emails then....." argument which in itself is an admission that they know he broke the law.

For the GOP the ideal scenario is for Trump to be prosecuted and removed from the Electoral equation by someone else. That way they get what they so desperately need without having to get their hands dirty.

His "base" is going nowhere and they probably account for ~20% of the GOP vote so they need to keep them onside somehow.

The weight of 6 years of cognitive dissonance will tear their brains apart I guess. Sunk cost fallacy

To paraphrase an old joke - A Trumpist election denier dies and goes to Heaven (because on balance they lived a decent life) and asks God, "Hey, who really won that election?" and God says, "Joe Biden" to which the guy slaps his thigh and says, "Damn! Even God's working for the deep state!"

    Nice detailed summary:

To sum it up, Trump took

PLAINLY MARKED classified records to MAL, he delayed, obstructed and resisted Government efforts to recover them, he (or his staff) concealed the records from investigators, and they got caught doing so.

It's likely Apple will do the same in a few weeks when they roll out their latest update. They're even stricter on this than Google.

Even if they did, do you think he paid attention or cooperated?

  • Moderators, Politics Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 16,967 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quin_Dub

Anyone with the intelligence or courage to actually tell him the truth is long gone (if they were ever there).

He is surrounded exclusively by sycophants , incompetents and other grifters.

    @Quin_Dub

The GOP are stuck in a very difficult position , one that they created for themselves by sticking by him when presented with multiple opportunities to cut bait. A blend of avarice and cowardice has brought them to their current position.

I don't think they've had a real chance to cut ties with Donald Trump. Not if they want to remain electable. If senior Republican politicians condemned Trump in the wake of Jan 6th, but then turned around and said, "Eh, actually maybe it wasn't that bad." or "This is just another witch hunt...", then that should tell you that something is very, very wrong. That should tell you that backlash was experienced and calculations were made. If the Republican party as a whole does not feel like it can cut ties with Trump after something like Jan. 6th, then they can never cut ties with Trump. Not every Republican voter's heart belongs to Trump but enough hearts do that he can boss the party.

My basic opinion is that there'll be no watershed incident that will cause the Republican party to break with Trump except for the party to find a candidate who can tempt Trump's base away. Something they're hoping to do with Ron DeSantis, I guess.

He has obtained new legal council AFAIK, so I imagine they tried.

But did he cooperate? Would appear to have not, it's clear what he is doing, whipping up the crazies for more violence because in his diet coke rotted head he thinks that will give him leverage.
