It really is worth any owners joining the Facebook group as the Tesla Owners Facebook groups are officially recognised by Tesla, and the admins of the group have direct lines into Tesla Ireland, and can and have helped many owners over the years getting issues resolved more satisfactorily if needed.

it’s also a wealth of knowledge, help, tips & tricks for owners.

Any one getting the M3 delivery on 09/09 received the registration details yet?

To me, that sounds like a horrendous idea or driver experience.

I'm open to correction from anyone with a new S/X, though.

This is a reply to the inventory cars that are just over the VRT reduction threshold: It's a wait and see game I suspect: What will the government decide about the grant/VRT reduction. If I was making decisions I would follow Holland's route: Get rid of the VRT and grants, just charge VAT on BEVs. It would make it so much easier for everybody. But I guess the civil servants need work too to manage the current system and they don't want to loose the extra 8% tax on really expensive vehicles.

what about the taxi grant - is it still 20k plus the 5k SEAI?

i was talking to a taximan the other day and he has an enyak ordered for 60k so net cost is 35k. He already had his order cancelled earlier in the year and the price was increased by something like 8k. With how bad we know the Skoda EV supply chain is i was wondering what happens if they remove the grant for taxi drivers.

20k is an astonishing grant - i hadnt realised it was that good and honestly cannot believe that more taxi drivers didnt jump on it.

That is where all the M5's went.

It's 20k and if eligible the 5k SEAI too. Business users don't get the 5k SEAI grant, so the taximan would have to be a sole trader and private purchase.

There are other criteria, so you must scrap an existing taxi with over 300k on the clock etc and there's a limited budget per year.

Perhaps they could just replace the steering wheel with a rubberised ipad while they are at it? The picture in the tweet looks like an out of season April Fools.

There are no refresh S/X outside of NA yet so you'd have to ask there for feedback. I don't like the idea in the 3/y but feel it works well with the yoke

The picture is the Semi cockpit I think seen as the steering wheel is centrally mounted. Not convinced about the lack of the stalks but we shall see how it works in practise. What I like is that Tesla has already in the past removed all the unnecessary controls like start/stop button, manual handbrake as they are absolutely not needed in this day and age. Just jump in and hit the drive to go. Also the likes of dog mode are a godsend that I could not live without anymore once used to it.

In a way, the Teslas appeal to the tech sector worker because of their sophistication matched to design, but if they are effectively becoming all about the 'experience' and not sharing information/feedback/control with the driver, then the car loses appeal to tech people who want the machine to be verbose about its state, what it is doing, what it intends through AI, what is activated and what is not. A car is not a plane which really needs that complex dash, but neither is it a 30kg bicycle or an iphone on wheels.

Edit: another thing that would annoy me is the removal of the two regen settings in the refresh TM3.

I work on tech so you might be right there. I don't know if we have more than one regen setting in our car but I find that it just works without putting any thought in it. The regen is very strong but just moderate it using the throttle. It's similar to the e-pedal in the leaf except that the regen doesn't randomly disengage at bumpy roads. In general the car just works without putting any additional thought in it without annoying messages and sounds, and I like that.

All in all I would like a bit more steering feedback on the Model 3 but apart from that it's a very enjoyable car to drive on twisty roads.

I work in tech and the car only needs one regen setting. "On".

Yes, need more consistency in the chaotic world. I like that.

I could definitely live with the single regen setting (done because they wished to maximise their EPA rating) but sometimes it is nice to take the pressure of the right foot momentarily without using cruise control out of urban areas on long journeys. No stalks on the other hand.... It might work with a tighter steering rack but seems a bit overkill on the RWD and LR models. More of a cost-saving, like ditching the 3.5mm audio port on some smartphones, than a tech upgrade.

I’m all on for it. I like the haptic controls and no stalks approach. But I like minimalist design of the Tesla. Others don’t and that’s completely fair enough.

    PSV grant still there.

I done 4 last year and one this year for family. None of them bought an M5 though.

    4xeNiros and 1 MG5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 435 ✭✭mc2022B2TF

I meant an MG5 lol sorry.

What a deal though. No wonder its hard to the general public to get ENiros and MG5's when they are being hoovered up by the taxi's who will pay a premium i'm sure.

I see linders were advertising MG5's as specific taxi fit outs for 40k when the price of the same model was 33k. 7k for the "taxi fit out"

If I am the driver and I get out of the car for something, will it still lock and turn off if passengers are in the car?

assume auto lock is on and I have my phone with me.

    Yes.

Either leave your phone in the car or leave a door slightly open, or use Camp Mode or Dog Mode.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,730 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

DO NOT DO THIS with kids in the car if you have Sentry Mode activated…….

they will be scared for life

Government policy seems to integrate the concept that for whatever supports they will provide it is targeted at lower prices EV’s, arguably encouraging migration to smaller more affordable EV’s perhaps thinking that those who can afford more expensive cars don’t need incentivisation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Enigma IE

Really? What is that? This could be a common enough scenario for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 435 ✭✭mc2022B2TF

only problem with that is where can you buy one of those cheaper ev's like you describe - they dont exist right now - and ones that do then put your finger in the air for when you may get a delivery date.

Your thinking is correct i'm just saying that the market is f****d

That's why i went for the model 3 a couple of weeks ago - guaranteed delivery in a weeks time from now and no worries of not getting the grant etc.

This year could see a reduction in the threshold to 50k and a reduction in the grant to 3.5k - that's my hunch

Ah oh, cheers for clarifying. I am guessing if camp/dog mode is enabled, then sentry mode is disabled at the same time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,730 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

It’s disabled internally yes, as otherwise it plays classical music (Bach) at FULL volume!!!!

I came out from a garage shop one time to find my 6 year old (locked) in the car absolutely screaming in terror, and I will never forget it for as long as I live (it’s a fcuking stupid feature……)

speaking of Sentry Mode and stupid features, it also flashes all the cars lights if it’s activated (it gets activated by someone walking past the car in a carpark….. again another stupid feature)

Leaving the phone in the car with only the kids is asking for trouble. Car could be stolen by a half-brained thief…kids in tow.

    camp mode it is then.
