What do you think both sides should accept with a ceasefire?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭lmimmfn

This for me is an important point, I.e. ceasefire:

    1. It's now a war of attrition, it will only stop when the money runs out, its a stalemate.

    2. The areas Russia currently holds, no one in their right mind would want, its NI all over again

    3. The current sanctions against Russia are of a benefit to noone in Europe.

While I disagree with Russia holding Europe to ransom over EU policies, its time to call a halt to this nonsense, give the EU time to ween themselves off Russian gas/oil and Ukraine not inherit a horrible NI scenario.

Winter is coming, there will be protests across all of Europe due to gas/electricity prices, its time to put a stop to this.

How exactly do you plan on stopping this because putin and his chronies are pushing this ideology of Ukraine needs to cease to exist, country, language, history, people.

It's not a war of attrition, if anything it's been a master class from the Ukrainans of how to fight a modern war

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,473 ✭✭✭Jinglejangle69

And what are your acceptable terms for Ukraine to surrender?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭mikewest

    1. No it finishes when Ukraine gets their country back.

    2. No. Ukraine wants their country back and it will be rebuilt as it has been many times in history.

    3. Yes they benefit everyone in Europe as they put Russia slowly back in their box and secure stability and freedom for us all.

Well you seem to think Ukraine should just give up and talk to Russia, who have said they won’t stop until Ukraine is wiped off the map.

So hmmmm seems you’re saying there should be negotiations we’re asking you what these might consist of.

You think Russia can be trusted to negotiate with?

Thank god the schools are back this week….

Six months into this war and we still have people rolling out idiotic ideas of appeasement and ceasefire giving a win to the the most dangerous scumbag since Stalin died.

Edit, the most dangerous European scumbag.

This is seriously weird, you're all concerned about your fellow Europeans being inconvenienced but not so much about your fellow Europeans being used for heavy weapons target practice. An Irish angle might have been believable but this is beyond bizarre.

European consciousness has, more or less, shifted to the realisation that the Kremlin no longer has a tangible concept of what truth actually is, or under what circumstances it should be acknowledged. You seem a little late to the party.

Ok, come back when your gas bill is 2K in Febuary.

Lots of lovely sentiment here, but come winter when we can't even afford to keep our families warm this will change.

The current progression or lack thereof in this war is nonsensical.

    1. Russia's money will run out long before the west's.

I do not know where this NI BS came from. Ukraine was grand until Putin started sticking his oar in to destabilize the country.

When it driven back to the 2014 border it more than early enough to consider a cease fire.

Maybe not even then maybe the borders in Moldova and Georgia should be realigned .

    No forget about that BS

    Typical Russian scare tactics after

    ''RUSSIAN'S HAVE NUCLEAR MISSLES''

Stain in your pants is there

If the Russian f@@k off back behind the 2014 lines the war will stop before that .

New reg after 1-2 posts onto this thread and into '' they have the bomb''

No we ate not but we know that appeasing dictator's only causes the problem to keep reappearing.

This should have being sorted in 2014 but Obama was not up to the job

    Slava Ukrainii

looks like it would be pretty hard to talk about this without being told you're on one side, without being pigeon holed.

i could agree some, but not all, of the things martin luther king crisps said.

like 'siding with washington'. why the fck would european nato countries not side with washington, when a ... *nuclear armed dictator in his twilight years who talks about being peter the great* ... invades a country which borders the eu.

and hows it siding with washington? that sort of boggles the mind.

washington could put their feet up and leave the whole thing an ocean away. europe cant.

'siding with washington' makes it sound like this is something that involves washington and russia primarily, and continental europe (where the **** is hitting the fan) is just a side character poking its nose in. doesn't make sense.

    *in the most literal sense.

It is not for you me or anyone on this thread to decide what Ukraine should do. We can just give our opinions on the matter, thats all really.

So nobody on this thread will be causing anyone in Ukraine to bleed blood, as you suggest.

Now as far as I can see, it seems that Ukrainians want to fight for their freedom rather than become another puppet state like Belarus. It is a horrific scenario for all the innocent lives being lost in Ukraine right now, and I dont think anyone here wants to see that continue. However I think most would support their decision to fight the facist invaders to keep their freedom and quite rightly would be glad to see Ukraine winning on the battlefield.

Yes it is all going to hurt us in the pocket and may do for quite a while, many are willing to accept that if it means supporting Ukraine against this unjust invasion.

Lol, how long have we been listening to this nonsense? Media were reporting Russia potential default since April. Recently they did default but its only semantics as the west won't accept their payment.

Russia selling oil to other countries and us buying back at a premium is just madness.

How this is going is just absolute madness and is just affecting common people in the EU, energy companies with their cash based on futures will crumble, who will pickup the tab? Taxpayers of course.

Europe printing money to beat the band exacerbating inflation, devaluing the euro further.

    This should not continue.

I agree completely with this, I'm not some Putinbot, the simple fact is is that the EU has become so dependent on Russian oil and gas that the current situation is unsustainable.

Don't blame Putin for gas/oil prices, blame the EU States and their stupid policies to give Russia so much power.

How will Moscovites heat their homes this winter when Russian engineers can’t keep the infrastructure going?

Looks like Russians can’t win the war so they think inflation will get the West to back off. Nope, not when we’ve Hitler 2.0 throwing his weight around. The EU will need to sort out the European energy problem. Russia is a financial lightweight. The EU will solve this… YOU better buy a good winter coat.

The Russian economy is tanking. Oil and gas is pretty much all they can export and as the west weans itself off Russian supplies that will diminish. The Chinese and other Russian "friends" are getting their supplies for knock-down prices. Russia hasn't just got the war to run - it's got a whole country to run and it has to do it with reducing income and reducied ability to buy critical spare parts and raw materials. Meanwhile the western economies are doing fine thank you very much and the arms manufacturers are only too happy to sell their wares for shipping to Ukraine which will serve as a useful testing ground for their kit. Time is not on Russia's side, just as it wasn't for the Germans in 1941-44 when the boot was on the other foot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭lmimmfn

The EU don't have a good record of resolving anything other than punishing non German/French countries, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

As well as that heavy coat for all in the family, lump in good bicycles for the family in urban areas and for rural areas several pairs of shoes to walk the 4-5 Km to the nearest shop.

Why do you Russian lads think that all this won’t happen if Russia are allowed do what they want?

Energy prices were increasing regardless of Russia invading Ukraine.

Thats not going to stop if Ukraine surrender.

Its coming regardless, and that’s why Russia needs to be put back in their box.

The Goebbels propaganda about energy shortages from Russia isn’t going to work.

No matter what, Russia will use energy as a weapon this winter.

So you're saying it's a game of chicken, with European lives at stake when it comes to heating in the winter, honestly don't know how to respond.

Your gung ho attitude would change if you had a family to heat on gas during this winter.

So let's see what happens when families are on the streets because they can't pay their bills.

There's one big problem with your argument. What if Ukraine refused to go along with any peace feelers that the Western powers might want to instigate and continued to resist the fascist invaders? That would be 100% their right as a sovereign, independent nation.
