Putin is a fool, a thick stupid fool. If not for nukes NATO troops would be parked up in red square months ago enjoying ice cream in the sun. Time to call his bluff and take the nuclear plants back and really some him who he is dealing with.

The Moscow car bomb that killed the daughter of "Putin's Brain" Alexander Dugin is certainly a strange mystery.

Could it have been carried out by western or Ukrainian intelligence operatives? Or an underground anti Putin movement within Russia itself?

Maybe Putin ordered the attack to take place, & he has now turned against his advisors & blamed them for the shitshow following the special operation.

I could think about this all week & not come up with an answer, unless other evidence comes into view!

I think that car bomb was an internal issue.

Wonder if the wheels are coming off the Putin machine

Maybe a little too subtle for Putin… still, Daddy may be washing his hair the next time Putin invites him for tea.

Remind me, how did things go for the original Rasputin?

Supposedly she was using her father's car that night, so possibly he was the real target.

Lex friedman had some ex CIA fella on a few weeks ago and his take on the war is very different to what you read here

The part where he says the west is using propaganda to influence english speaking Russians was interesting, basically we can't believe anything we read or see about this war.

I don't see how Germany whose economy Is built on cheap gas from Russia does not eventually take the knee to Putin. When that happens Ukraine are on their own completely.

Germanys position as the main power in Europe than takes a dive and you would assume France will than become the major player in Europe

The UK must fell like right dummies, if they never left the EU they and France would likely control it now, the French are loving this. The UK leaves the EU and Germany soon will be dirt.

I don't see the car bomb bring the Ukrainians. It would make no sense to go all the way to Moscow and blow up some weirdo with no value, plenty of better targets in that area.

Could it be start of some justification for mobilization of some sort? Backend work from some sector of government looking to influence policy maybe. If this guy has Putins ear, could his hawkish attitude turn even more vicious and look for heavy retribution.

    Interesting development all the same.

We should defend our way of life to an extent that any attempt on it is crushed, so that any adversary will never make such an attempt in the future.

Putin’s ordered assassinations usually are making a point in making the victim know what is happening and why, being it poison or taking a high jump. So this I don't think it was his doing. In any case, good riddance.

I thin it would make plenty of sense for Ukraine to kill Dugin. Doesn't necessarily mean it's the case that that's what happened.

There are probably four or five other explanations that would make sense too.

Dugin's daughter could even have been the target, not Dugin himself - to send a warning.

Germany is a bizarre country, it's like stepping back 20 years. Working there is like stepping back 30.

The importance of the fax machine in Germany is not appreciated here.

It may well take a stumble. It was heading for it long before this anyway.

Because Europe is complete basketcase, with sheeple population. look how dependant Germany is on Russia and China, they can't change now... irony is more deglobalisation and euro nations looking towars nationalism after laughing at UK and brexit...

German government cuts taxes on gas for consumers as chancellor is met with protest.

It's August wirh record temperatures and they are already beginning to buckle - just wait until November and the gas has been turned off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,087 ✭✭✭Markcheese

Germany is a bit of a mess , they need the war to end to get cheap gas again - not for the public but for industry ...

But they can't back Russia ( partly because they've been made to look like fools )

And they can't back Ukraine 100%, because they need, need ,need any gas (not just cheap) for this winter ...

If the Germans can get to a state where they can cover their domestic gas needs (non industrial ) then expect them to throw themselves fully behind Ukraine , to end the war quickly and get back on the teat of cheap Russian gas for industry ( they'll probably keep a back up this time )

Can you or one of your comrades point to German unrest at resisting Russia. And are you silly enough to think people won’t complain at high prices in the hope taxation is reduced?

Germany is only too aware of the threat or actually living under Russian rule. I think they’ll put on an extra jumper, both metaphorically and actually, to not bend the knee to Russia - even those of Russian heritage due to their mothers being raped by Russian soldiers.

Is anyone supposed to be impressed by that? The mighty Russian army who were expected to overrun Ukraine in a fairly short time, control only a fraction of the country's territory after nearly six months of fighting, tens of thousands of men dead, god knows how much ordinance used and relations with the West destroyed for a generation.

And it's not eastern Ukraine Putin is after, anyway. He wanted the whole country, plus Zelenskyy's head on a silver platter. Two objectives he's failed at so far.

I’ll not, but there are plenty here of German heritage that will. But, awaiting your link.

You already did. It wasn't great either

You should read the article. They are already protesting gas prices- in August.

You say they will just put non another jumper in winter.

    Yeah

Russia known that, it's why they concentrated on securing the leadership.

Merkel, Schroeder in the pocket was worth more than millions of German people supporting Russia.

Scholz has a lot of questions to answer as well.

Even if Germany vanished tomorrow, America and others would be only too happy to keep prosecuting this proxy war against Russia for as long as it takes. It's actually quite "cheap" for them when you consider the US defence budget. Their annual spend is close to 800 billlion. Chucking say ten billion at Ukraine's defence is a bargain for the return on investment. They get to embarrass and bleed Russia without American boots on the ground.

It's a pretty good deal for the EU too in the long term. They get to soften the cough of the bear in their backyard, Germany or no. France would be only too happy to take up the reins if Germany drops them. Plus when the dust finally settles the EU gets to make hay with rebuilding Ukraine and bringing it into the fold. Those in the EU closest to Russia geographically have long experience and bad blood as far as dealing with them.

NATO has gotten a shot in the arm from this and has massively extended her borders with Russia. Putin goes DOH!

China couldn't be arsed about Russia save for buying her oil at firesale prices. Russia makes up a tiny fraction of their exports and economy and they've had bad blood going back centuries. They certainly don't want to lose the massive revenues from the rest of the world who sees Russia as the bad guy. Especially when their internal economy is taking a beating.

Russia on the other hand is virtually cut off from international trade, leasing, banking and investment. A few rupees from places like India - who will change when the wind does as they always have - won't make up the shortfall.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

It’s incredible Germany got into this position. You’d not expect German chancellors to sell their souls, but what other explanation? Possibly black mailed… that more than just greed makes sense.

Is this supposed to be a distraction?

Where is the evidence the German people are willing to capitulate to Russia, and want their government to do so?

    Long-term planning.

The same is going on now with food production.

Western Europe is becoming a hostile place for agricultural.

By far the most productive and suitable land in the world and by a incredible margin the most environmentally responsible agriculture and one needing least inputs.

You would think that food and energy are mainstays but that's not how European politics thinks
