Couldn't sign up to Bord Gais Dual Fuel offer.

Currently with Electric Ireland for electricity and Bord Gais for gas. Out of contract with both. Tried to sign up with Bord Gais for their dual fuel offer. However when i entered my MPRN for the electricity the following message popped up. Don't know why this happened considering I'm out of contract. I had a smart meter installed earlier this year for my Electric Ireland. Are Bord Gais not accepting smart meters maybe?

Look at your most recent bill, if it says mcc01 (24hr) or mcc02 (day/night) on it the smart service isnt enabled. Smart meters are mcc17 and i think mcc11 or 12, cant remember.

Checked my bill. Says MCC12. My current plan is Home Electric+.

Found this piece on smart meters on bonkers.ie. If you are on a smart meter tariff you can't switch back to a non smart meter tariff.

So you have the smart meter enabled, i'd guess you are trying to sign up to the best dual fuel plan, 39% on both gas and electric, im not sure you can.

I have a smart meter - not enabled if that helps and signed up for BG dual fuel.was on 24 hr esb offer;bg tariff was standard.MPRN number did not change.Correct readings supplied?

You can't. Had to use the Bord Gais plan search facility. One of the questions was do you have a smart meter. If you say yes, a number of plans are displayed that are relevant. None of them are as good as their widely publicised dual fuel bundle where you get a 39% discount for both gas and electric.

Best advice is not to take the smart meter packages. They keep encouraging me to swap over but i ignore them.
