No underpinning done on house in area prone to subsidence

    Hi all,

We are currently looking to buy a new house. One that we are looking at is in the area that we really want to buy in but the area is also prone to subsidence (Cork in general is!). It is not underpinned, we would obviously need to get an engineer to do a thorough review of it, but even if there are currently no signs of subsidence would it be a bad purchase?

As far as I know we couldn’t get subsidence insurance because of the area that it’s in. Will the bank even give you a mortgage without that?

    Thanks in advance!
