Quite an arc of activity in from the south coast from Waterford to Kerry! Seems to be all aided by a convergence zone with surface wind to the coast from the south, off the sea, and surface wind inland from the north.

Fair play Munster. SIGMET in place for the area in blue. Frequent Thunderstorms, cloudtops 35,000 feet. Expires 1710Z (they're only issued for 3-hour intervals) but I'd expect an update shortly.

Extremely dark looking south of Kilkenny but not seen or heard a thing yet.

What is this about @DOCARCH ( in dummies guide :D ) .. It seems to be "arcing" North and around Cork city at the mo, similar for Waterford city. Is this geography in play OR coastal perhaps?

By arc I just meant a nice curve/shape/line of activity. Nothing really technical in that! The line of activity seems to be as a result of higher ground, and south/north wind meeting (and pushing up the cloud to form the thunderstorms - convergence).

Amazing to see those storm cloud tops spreading out so widely.

    STh Kilkenny.

Still lashing rain here , lots of grumbly thunder that rolls beautifully across the sky, and nice sheet lightning.

    Started about 60mins ago.

    Biblical downpour in North Kildare

We have had two unbelievably heavy rain showers so far today in North County Dublin.

Don't know how there was no thunder or lightning with them.

In Dublin City now and the clouds are getting ominously dark!

So far only a very light sun shower in south Kildare, some dark clouds and very sunny and warm.

Not a drop of rain here in Waterford City today and hardly any last night either and we need the rain.

South Kilkenny currently experience a lot of thunder and lightning. Looks to be very stationary the past hour.

Judging https://meteoradar.co.uk/expected-rainfall it looks like it's going to be there for the next 3 hours at least moving towards carlow and spreading out across South Tipp.

Anybody know if tonight has as much potential as last night?

Now constant distant rumbling here in Ballincollig, not the loudest but definitely noticeable. Temperatures have dropped precipitously in the last hour, dropping nearly 7°C in less than an hour. Rain is finally starting as well...

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

This time lapse just shows the rapid development this afternoon. Some of those cells are huge in terms of width and height.

I have to say before our thunderstorms yesterday it was 25c and after it dropped to 18c but remained that over night, it's defo colder today

A few showers of heavy rain but overall it appears to be a total dud as far as thunder and lightning goes in Dublin. Been watching the radar all day. Munster getting hammered, storm going accross from Cork to Waterford and Wexford much like last night.

Munster is seeing stuff hover about and go the east whereas, Dublin is getting stuff from the North West where it is cooler, so I am guessing there is a difference in the air mass.

The time lapse on the webcam is interesting, clouds moving north and then cloud moving south to meet it.

About to post and now a big rumble of thunder, getting closer:)

Regular thunder coming from the Lisdowney/Ballyragget area in Kilkenny, can see its raining around Lisdowney.

Absolute deluge in Dublin 2 now! No sparks or rumbles but rain that reminds me of Florida!

No thunder and lightning but an insanely heavy shower across Leixlip and Lucan that lasted over 30 mins with no let up.

Some sparks finally starting to branch further into new areas - Laois/South Kildare now. Things starting to fill out along that axis from Dublin down to Cork/Kerry. Maybe we'll get a single boom in Dublin later but not counting any chickens.
