I can see the next gen of FG wearing Bobby Sands t-shirts ffs.

Regardless of politics, another use of a dead man for optics.

Apologies for the delay, I was at the beach.

The Charlie I referenced was the Charlie from Sunny in Philadelphia as per your picture 😁 It does sound like you are now admitting the Irish government is corrupt but not as corrupt? When FG took power in 2011 they had no opposition. FF were disgraced and quietened. FG could effectively do what they wanted. Despite the New Politics promises, thats exactly what their politicians did (let me know if you want the list).

Anyhoo, in terms of the corruption (and planned privatisation) surrounding the setup of Irish Water...yes I would love to see a meaningful investigation into all of it. Not a typical FFG sham commission/inquiry that would take 10 years and be lucrative to the legal friends. I mean a real no nonsense independent inquiry.

Reminder: Despite the public funding to the tune of €1.4bn in 2021 — the utility is exempt from audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General, the State’s accountant, with private consultants Deloitte instead doing the honours since 2014.

    This what I would like investigated;

    • Setup costs 180m estimated, 1.4bn actual
    • The spend on consultants (including the lies about this spend at the oireachtas committee - he said 50m, it was 86m at the time)
    • All IW contracts and procurement processes (obviously including Siteserv)
    • Tierney getting the IW job despite the abject failure of Poolbeg and Greyhound while at DCC
    • The RPS connection/corruption/cronyism (Tierney - Grant - Arnett - Family job)
    • Tierney's pension deal
    • The IW bonuses-for-all despite the overspends and delays
    • The missing minutes with Hogan meetings
    • Hogan getting a sweet EU job despite the abject failure in IW
    • The Privatisation agenda reported by Minister Fergus O'Dowd (FG)

Could you ask your FFG friends to arrange this and provide a report on it? The climbdown was spectacular (fair play to the Irish people!) but we never got answers to these questions.

    100%

Apologies if I missed it being covered in this thread (not been online much with the glorious weather) but I only learned this morning about Eamon Ryan's mother passing away as the result of a tragic accident earlier in the week.

Sincere condolences to her entire family, and may her soul rest in eternal peace.

Hogan getting a sweet EU job despite the abject failure in IW

That is a time honoured government way of getting rid of people, McCreevey was also banished by Bertie. It was Hogan's second strike anyway after the LPT mess-up and FG wanted to move him out.

The O'Dowd allegation was his claims of certain voices, little else.

Would the conversation not have been a bit like this:

EK: Phil, I want you to bring in water charges.

PH: Ah Jaysus, Enda, why me?

Because you're the right man for the job.

I thought we were friends? Whoever brings in water charges is fooked. You do know that right?

Not just fooked Phil, royally fooked. C'mere, fancy Europe?

    Yes, yes I do.

So, are you going to bring in water charges then?

Absolutely Enda, thanks. Can I be arrogant and obnoxious while I'm doing it?

Sure Phil, knock yourself out. Tell the feckers you'll turn the water down to a trickle if you want.

Leos article in the paper saying SF will force people to emigrate has not gone down well. What a clown considering what his party have done to the country

O'Dowd's allegation was a speech in the Dail during the Water Services Bill debate. It needs to be investigated.

FG rewarded Trickle Hogan's failure in IW with a job paying 340,000 Euros per year before significant expenses. Thats New Politics.

As soon as he went to Europe he wouldn't even entertain questions on IW.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

No it's not new. McCreevy was also packed off. It can be a quick way to demote a minister and get them immediately out of the way. An EU commissioner job works as either a reward or a punishment. Is this also a rant about EU expenses as well?

Nurses are headhunted worldwide and the HSE are in direct competition with the NHS. Their being elsewhere is often down to better money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,189 ✭✭✭Brucie Bonus

Banished to a nice job were you are relatively untouchable and well paid.

Of course his FG attitude towards covid restrictions did him in as the world and the EU was watching. Another time it might have been shrugged off like Dara Murphy's double jobbing, which was well known and only an issue after the public got wind. Then of course there was no investigation or accountability because of those pesky rules who only Brian Boru or Elvis or someone could possibly change. Hands tied, lessons learned etc.

Pay them better then and provide them with proper working conditions and they might stay.

    Remarkable idea i know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,189 ✭✭✭Brucie Bonus

And not decades of letting the HSE fester, leaving slaintecare to gather dust, treating nurses like leeches suggesting they had too many holidays, (remember that FG campaign suggesting much of the problems in health related to nurses taking too much time off?), understaffed and during covid needing to use student nurses as nurses but FF/FG refusing to give them extra payments? Nurses aren't leaving because they are greedy.

So Leo says voting SF will increase emigration. Well dear boy sorry to burst your bubble that is already happening under your watch and you expect us to

Just over 700 rental available properties in Ireland and you round on SF when it's on your watch. My my all these attacks since Friday on SF are backfiring.

Wow Boards is being read in the right circles.

People still keep an eye on it across the spectrum, including in government departments.

If it was under the same arrangement as the U.K.s Hinkley Point nuclear plant then then a lot of that would not occur. Both France`s EDF and China`s CGN are financing, building and will run the plant there. With a lifetime of 60 years, possibly extended to 80, plus nuclear now being part of the E.U. taxonomy regime for energy they obviously see it as a good investment. If we got the same deal here then it would make sense to take it. The latest strike price here for renewables is the same as the latest strike price in the U.K. for nuclear, and nuclear is much more reliable.

I would say certain government departments and mandarins do more than just keep an eye on here. Watch what will happen tomorrow.

One thing I’ll say about our government is that we should be glad to be living in a democracy where free speech is allowed. Thankfully we don’t live somewhere like China or Russia where every element of social media is heavily censored & you stand to be deleted as a citizen let alone what you might post on a Chinese Twitter equivalent. I’m certainly not a fan of FG or any of the government parties but better that lot than a government we could be subjected to. Democracy is a very delicate thing & we can’t take it for granted.

I had to laugh at the subheading for the Leo book. He's not modern at all. Trying to be trendy is as close as he gets. The poor fella doesn't know what he believes. Using another dead man to try score against the shinners.

Welcome back @Dempo1. All this too-ing and froing brings me back to simpler times when politics was not on our agenda and also when animals saved lives as seen below.

We are all grown up and have taken various sides of the political divide. And in my case the I am against the current government in its current shape and form as it is not doing what its supposed to do, which is look after all of its citizens and not a select few.
