Yeah hopefully, it would be good if local Hams could be convinced to go on the CB even the legal frequencies because when 80m is packed and there's nothing but contests and inconsiderate arseholes transmitting 4 K wide It recently dawned on me that the CB band really is good for local chat, of course there can be skip but in general I think CB does offer a lot for local contacts.

I haven't heard skip beyond Europe for a while, does anyone ever hear the US or Canada ?

I was wondering if I should cabled the Imax 2000 to the sitting room but think that would have driven herself over the edge with big dirty RG213U Coax so just brought it to the shack, probably better off anyway, will listen on the Tecsun radio for activity and can head up to the shack if needed.

I hope a friend of mine gets his A99 back up, he's on Rossmore laois, nice and high so would probably get to him with 1 Watt on the handheld when I get it as I have good line of sight with there, I'm interested to try out FM, I was really impressed hearing FM on the 891 for the first time the other night when I had that contact with the lad in Portugal.

The guy in rossmore will blow smoke big time and he will hear and talk to a lot of Irish guys around the country as he has the height there.

I often was mobile on top of rossmore and spoke to Irish stations all over the country.

Yeah he should get out well up there,

I'd love to be able to put a CB in the car but not really possible with the Carbon Fibre roof and plastic body panels, modern cars are very radio unfriendly.

You can get cb antennas that fix to the boot its like a clamp style fixing.

I can but the boot is Plastic too, wouldn't work and no ground.

I hear local lads on 27,535 now but they're actually weak enough but there is also a strong station on the same freq and he's having a qso with another station that's quiet enough to me also lots of swearing.

I might be able to hear the strong lad and the other lads he's talking to but the QRM from the other lads are kind of drowning them out but they obviously can't hear them.

Good to hear local action but be a lot better if they were on different Freq, I wonder how many are actually using a real CB ?

Has to be ground somewhere on the car mate also its a clip on the boot goes at the edge of the boot where the boot closes

That's for sure lad over a radio it's just not on, licensed or not.

Here's a few pics of the Volkswagen ID.4, I got the ID3 so might work, this looks like there's some form of medal to attach to, I didn't think there was on mine but will take a look again, prob hear nothing with a mobile setup unless up a hill due to little activity.

There is an alternative for mounting on the roof if you place a Neodymium magnet on the inside of the roof and a magnetic aerial will deffinatly adhere to it the neodymium magnets are as strong as hell and won't interfere with radio signal

On the way back from Greece yesterday I got passed by a Romanian with a CB aerial on the car. I was thinking, there's something I haven't seen for many years. Half a minute later his road buddy passed. I was slightly disappointed that neither of them were driving Opel Mantas with Rothmans sun visors 🙂
