If a relatively well-known young adult (in their 40s at most) dies unexpectedly and no indication as to the cause of death is mentioned in the press and no indication as to when (or even if) an inquest will take place, why might the cause of death not be disclosed in the immediate aftermath?

Surely, the fact that births, marriages and deaths are matters of public record means that some indication of what the cause of death is would be published, wouldn't it?

Assuming there is nothing suspicious about the death. Then its no one else's business other the beavered family

The fact that they died is a matter of public record.

The cause of death is not, unless there is an inquest held.

There will be a post mortem anyway if there is no obvious or known cause of death, previous illness etc. Inquests are generally used with violent deaths or if a post-mortem cannot explain cause of death. Post-mortem findings are always disclosed to the family of the deceased.

The cause of death is disclosed on the death certificate. It's not broadcast to the world if that's what you mean.
