With respect, that's a typical 'shoot the messenger' type of response. And reflects poorly on you. Most people I know are quite happy to support genuine war refugees fleeing from areas of conflict in Ukraine. But not happy to be taken advantage of either, there has to be a balance in these matters.

Maybe it's time to call all Ukrainian arrivees into interviews and repatriate both those from non conflict zones and all men eligible for service wherever they're from. Otherwise public support will wane further.

The employer of those four Ukrainians paying them cash needs to be reported. Wreckless carry on.

Have to agree. I just feel that despite the obvious need to do something, it seems on the surface, Government has no stomach to make any tough decisions despite an alarming situation getting worse.

Unfortunately the absurd EU directive is the go to excuse, get out of jail explanation.

I'd be calling for at a minimum a cessation of anymore being admitted and an immediate review of who's actually been admitted.

Before some jump on the anti refugee bandwagon, I come to this conclusion primarily because any realistic supports possible now are just a Fallacy, there is simply no logic to be encouraging pointless migration at this stage,, particularly when it's been abundantly clear the country can no longer cope.

Conservatively 90,000 more on top of 45,000 already here. No talks of capping, reducing payouts to balance out situation, it’s mad.

Average monthly salary in Kiev - €610.

    Less regionally.

I see the Aviva Stadium being a little more talkative this morning, we've gone from silence, to leak to " We are doing our Bit"

    Didn't take long 🤔

As I mentioned earlier, 7k more Ukrainian refugees by end of August

It will be disgraceful if student accommodation is compromised in September.

Honestly not sure how this aspect will place out but I suspect there will be difficulties, when the department responsible has to draw up letters of internal deportation, that suggests to me trouble ahead.

Where are they sleeping in Aviva ? Are there tents on the pitch ?

I guess hotels will take up more numbers. This will have negative effect on tourism. There is no one steering the ship.

No, in the corporate area, Heaven's above the pitch would be destroyed 😏

Would that airport terminal be better place than aviva?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,201 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

This is already in train but few hotel spaces available until late September, the tourism sector dies down for a few months (not that this year's was inspiring) but problems will arise again in December and I believe few additional hotels keen to get into long term arrangements. It's likely there'll be few if any additional Dublin hotels getting involved, they maintain good business all year round so its likely any new hotel accommodation will be nowhere near Dublin and Iikely in the middle of nowhere with little or no employment opportunities .

They were probably getting fleeced on Roaming Charges 🤔 given Ukraine NOT in EU and not subject to EU roaming charge caps, unless of course that was another addition to the Absurd EU directive 😏

Well if they are getting their very generous welfare income every week, they just pay for their bills out of that. Like the rest of us peasants have to do.

It genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if the government gives out phones with paid network.

Where was the poster being xenophobic?

So you incorrectly accuse the poster of being xenophobic and irrelevantly point out that English is not the posters first language.

    Xenophobia?

That virtue signalling is coming to an abrupt end (Free Sims), I don't believe free phones were given out by networks, perhaps a few very basic button phones (3) and charitable donations etc.

The gesture initially regarding free sims with credit was in fairness and at the start of this perfectly reasonable 😉

Six more Ukrainians arrived at a hotel down the road from me, the place is already heaving with them. They holel have converted a huge function room into bedrooms using demountable partitions, holiday apartments & chalets attached to hotel is full to the gills. These six were in Poland since last March - I guess once Poland stopped the welfare payments they decided to head to treasure Ireland. From talking to some of them I get the impression that they are here in Ireland for the long haul, just longing for their husbands/partners to join them.

Sounds like an idyllic location (The Challets) 😏

They should be deported if right was right but no issue pps number etc. Treasure Ireland will be like places in London shortly.

Reading your post the Bird O'Donnell character from the field comes to mind. Imagine being that sly and underhand that you would engage in conversation with them, presumably make them feel welcome etc, and then go on the Internet to undermine them! Yuk.

God help the poor auld creatures. Looks like they'll have to pay for something finally

Opinions formed from one post and added bonus presumptions included.. Yuk is right.

You have no idea under what circumstances they spoke, no idea under what capacity, no idea about anything other than what was in the post. Where was the undermining? That they are waiting for their husbands, or that they left Poland where they were already in Refuge, to come to Ireland which is full? Or is it the reporting of it that you don't like? 🤫 We must keep it all under wraps...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,070 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

The fact that you think there is nothing sly or underhand in what he is doing says a lot about you.

There you are with the opinions again.

No it doesn't say a lot about me. It says more about you the way to jump to opinion forming based on a post, and then stick to your guns and double down when somebody points it out.

The OP posted that six refugees are after arriving from Poland where they had been staying, they gave the impression that they were here for the long haul and waiting for their other halves. OP posted in a forum thread about Ukrainian Refugees in Ireland.

Where is the Sly or Underhandedness there?

"Sly" - Is that because OP met somebody for the first time, and we have zero idea for how long, and posted about it? Oh the dirty sly sneaky person. I hope they don't turn up at artless class for at least a week after that one.

"Underhanded" - Is that because OP didn't keep it a secret?

I am confused as to how the OP is being underhanded or sly .. Was OP their best friend and did other worse things that you may be able to tell us about after figuring it out from their post, or is that it?
