I think a few Ukrainians that aren't vaccinated are the least of our worries to be fair.

But pointing out unvaccinated people could cause a spike in admissions to hospital and ICU units is now racist??

    Somebody even thanked that post??

Whatever way you lean on the refugee issue it's getting silly around here now.

Our 'crippling' health service has got nothing to with immigration. Conflating the two issues is just ridiculous, our health service has been a shambles for a long time, and has far more to do with work practices than any blame on 'foreigners'.

Surely you can see that lack of vaccination amongst Ukrainian refugees is a red herring that xenophobic posters will dive on (xenophobic might appease some posters that racism doesn't apply because they're the same colour). They're from an Eastern bloc country, natural reticence to Government approved programs is a given.

I mean hello? It's the pointing out that Ukrainian refugees might not be vaccinated without any reference to the Irish unvaccinated which is the racist bit!

Disagree to a certain extent. What about hospital staff if if there is an upturn in infections? Less staff due to isolation. Less staff to help in ICU...I think it is serious.

What about teachers, if they get ill, who's going to teach?

    It's a serious discussion.

As for the other poster throwing out the racist card. Meh. To be expected.

    what next .. ?

More Ukrainian people will just keep arriving. No cap say ‘our elected representatives’

the government start throwing money at… gym owners turn them into accommodation hubs…. So people cannot avail of health and fitness facilities, that not only help people stay fit and healthy but aid recovery from long term health conditions… ?

Hotels.. so people have less opportunity to de stress and get away from life and stress at a reasonable cost. Weddings ? Forget it.

Brilliant. So we're all phobeists. Super duper.

Hello? You do know what measures were happening in Ireland for the last two years? And lets just just let it run wild again. Outstanding thought process.

As for the Irish unvaccinated. What was the % uptake of the vaccine here. Lets compare. I'm sure you have the details at your finger tips.

I honestly don't see how it can be anything other than racism/xenophobia. Selecting a particular group of people to blame for positions people may find themselves in is inherently dangerous. I'd love for some of the posters on here to actually go and meet a Ukrainian refugee in the flesh and see if they still feel the same instead of adopting an us and them approach.

Our crippling health service may have nothing to do with immigration, but the point is that it would be an even bigger strain, even more so if a bad virus hits this winter. We wouldn't have anywhere to put the extra bodies (alive), no room. At best, we may get some of the tents back and hope it is a mild winter while people are treated in those. There is no point in telling people to stay in or go home and pass it on to their families.

Vaccination or lack of it won't be the problem. Xenophobia isn't the issue either as much as many might try to pin that on people.

Have no idea what point you're trying to make here, are the hospitals full of unvaccinated Irish or not?

Oh my. So much in that post. Can you give me your definition of racism/xenophobia. And I mean yours. No wiki/google link, your thoughts on it.

And your inherent selfish post and determining what we think is appalling. You do know there was a pandemic and a severe lockdown here. Are you an anti vax person?

We are doing a lot here. But it has to be done in a considerate and proportional way. Do you believe all Irish people don't have a huge amount of melanin or were all born in Dingle?

So, you know all these refugees? You can stand up and say yep, that's the lad. I don't believe anybody on this thread is saying not to help, but questions have to be asked and coherent procedures put in place. What about non EU people in DP? What about them!?

How many times this has to be repeated. When Ukrainians were being given refuge here, many/most stayed quiet, said nothing, and were ready to do our bit, take in more people in bad circumstances. Then they started getting priority housing above our homeless and people that can't afford their own, benefits, and so on.

Then the number of them coming in rose, and rose again. Then we were told it was to rise again, until we were told we ran out of space.

It is not the refugees seeking refuge that is the issue. It is the government not vetting them all and cramming in too many. Many non Ukrainians getting in under the pretence that they are. Many coming in don't need the big handouts they are being given, were any of them means tested or whatever sort of equivelant there may have been? I mean for God's sake, we have done our bit, given them refuge and given them accommodation etc. maybe it's time the ones that can afford to , started looking after themselves. They are in no more danger here once they have escaped the dreaded war that is annihilating their country. Let them pay for themselves the way everyone else is expected to. They have been given citizenship and everything else because the dopes in government want the numbers to be x million before 2030. That is their agenda, and they can own it, but why the rush of cramming so many in, under such a short period of time, because we all know at this stage that things aren't as bad over there as they initially were, or as they are being made out everywhere, I suggest that over half that are here today could go back tomorrow and live a relatively normal life back on their normal wage etc.

According to todays paper only 1 in 50 Irish people have taken the booster vaccine. So if as the experts say a vaccine is only effective for about 6 months then it's pretty much the case that only 1 in 50 Irish people are vaccinated. But I guess some of the outraged round here will blame it on Ukranians anyway.

    Eh...no.

Edit: I'm curious here. Can you break it down for me. Is this the third shot here? You're trying to convince me only 2% of the population opted for it here? I'm going to like your reply me thinks.

One country had one of the highest vaccination rates in the EU the other had one of the worst.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,361 ✭✭✭standardg60

Xenophobia is exactly the issue here, no matter how some posters would like to dress it up

People like you have done more harm than good when it comes to fighting racism. The word loses all meaning when the likes of you throw it around so easily.

I see the opw are building 500 modular homes completion date for November. 2000 refugees they have said they will home.

It’s a start but if we have over 100,000 refugees by end of year 2,000 is minuscule.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

No, xenophobia is not the issue here, no matter how some posters like to try and explain it as that, because they are incapable of seeing the issues.

It doesn't even make sense that you quoted that post and said that. It is literally a case of just bandying around labels and hoping some will stick. No time for that nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,246 ✭✭✭0ph0rce0

Add on the extra 35,000 permanent homes they said they'd need to build on top of the 33,000 homes they are building for us plebs to buy for 700 or 800k or rent for 2 - 3000 a month.

That'll put a fair dent in housing them. And they'll be free or heavily subsidised too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,117 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

Firstly I'm not trying to convince you of anything, why would I.

I take it you know what a booster vaccine is right. Well the figures in today's paper show 1 in 50 have taken the latest booster vaccine. So bearing in mind how long a vaccine is effective for you should be able to figure out the rest.

  • Site Banned Posts: 7,421 ✭✭✭gameoverdude

1st or 2nd booster vaccine? Don't be beating around the bush here you know or you don't.

If it's the second...again, oh my. Maybe do a bit of research.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,117 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

What part of"latest" and "booster " are you struggling with?

  • Site Banned Posts: 7,421 ✭✭✭gameoverdude

Not myself that is struggling. Look at the criteria. I'm sure you have a lovely hand, but I'm not going to hold it.

If ever there was a post to sum up my thinking this is it.

We may find out what real racism is shortly, as apparently this evening refugees from Ukraine arrived in Kinnegad, westmeath, but the building that they are supposed to be housed in, is currently still occupied by another group of refugees from other countries that were supposed to have been moved on to tents already. But no room for Ukrainians there tonight, unless they all double up.

I couldn't guess why the other refugees must leave so the Ukrainians can stay there.

You have really out done yourself with that reply. Outstanding.

Sooo...what you're saying is white Ukrainians should get special treatment? What was it you called other posters?🤔
