NO, online signing is being offered in selective cases for those on Jobseekers payments and with a verified mywelfare account.

SWA, which I believe is being given to Ukrainan refugees is somewhat different.

DSP have actually suspended monthly signing on at Intero centres in many cases but regardless, PO collection and signing for of SWA payments is required weekly.

I can’t seem to see any news article so I’ll ask here the first round of refugees that stayed in the tents are they relocated and new group there now?

All very quite re gormanstown, somewhat of media blackout. This is the most recent update from Government press office RTE

Sky news have an interesting report re Cruise ship, suspension of a Plan in Scotland re Ukrainian Refugees. Slightly off topic but relevant, I won't lnk to the article but could thss be a next move in Ireland 🤔

Does Ireland have cruise ships at their disposal?

I would think church’s would be a good solution. Plenty space to line out beds. Toilets and showers easily got on site with mobile structures.

Not that I believe, but neither does Scotland, they charted one.

Not sure how practical churches would be to be honest, particularly those with adjoining grave yards, can't imagine Portaloos being a good look or being appropriate, Temporary showers would be an extraordinary sight too.

We need to start thinking outside the box. Will more hotels sign up to take the thousands upon thousands that have yet to reach our shores?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,201 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

I agree but that perhaps should have started last April.

Numerous hotels in discussions with government but won't be available till early to mid September and even at that sporadically.

Churches would be a good idea but a lot of the religious flock also tend to be far right in their views and ironicly also very intolerant.

Someone will always get their nose out of joint. In these times people need to flex.

No great problem - tented communities are the way to go. Offers the basics of shelter & food without any great luxury.

Not sure it would have anything to do with religious flocks at all, it would be down to basic practicalities.

Are you adding that to your list of scaremongering?

"Jet setting wealthy Ukrainian paedos travel back and forth from magically 100% safe pockets of Ukraine to Ireland with their fancy cars for free super-dole, unlimited bus-stop-buggies, free houses, and free luxury cruises"

    77 likes since 2011 , my that's impressive

Ah, so "likes" are where it's at? That would be consistent with the attempts at populist rantings.

Thread is about Ukrainian refugees. Not on how many "likes" a poster has.

(Not since 2011 btw, but is since they changed over to their new system)

The minute the Government opened the doors to Ukrainian refugees the plans should have been put in place

Just like for Covid we needed a task force with experts to put plans forward and get them done . Almost overnight we had vaccine centres up and running very efficiently because somehow the right people got it done .

We dont need inexperienced NGO’s fusterring around for months with pledged houses . We need experienced people , business people , who get things done . One of the biggest failings in all this fiasco was the dreadful management of the thousands of pledged room and homes . Some still waiting since March to fill perfectly good granny flats and houses . Yet we have elderly and kids with special needs in tents and sports halls

This should have been done efficiently. Young able bodied women and men in tents , elderly in hotels , young babies and kids with special needs in rooms etc etc

Morning DT, quite a diatribe last night, thankfully I missed it 😉

Thought you'd take a lie in this morning 😴

not at all sure were I've mentioned Luxury Cruises, super dole stop buggies, free houses, perhaps your mixing me up, again with someone else.

actually your conveniently ignoring my many, many posts clarifying and indeed correcting misleading information on SW payments, indeed a few this morning.

I'm dreadfully sorry to be objective, I know it doesn't suit you, also dreadfully sorry to continue highlighting issues pertaining to this debacle.

I'm still waiting for that apology re your silly assertion I made any comments about single mothers.

Delighted you didn't get your way last night re misrepresentation of what posters have said, no such luck again this morning but I admire your persistence, it's remarkable.

    Have a smashing day 😏

Ah jaysus. I genuinely feel sorry for people who have nothing better to measure of their own self-worth except validation by strangers via likes on Facebook or boards.ie or otherwise.

Thread is about Ukrainian refugees. But the populist crap does make sense now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,201 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

😂😂😂 Coming from the master of deflection and discourse, that's extraordinary DT

Choose to Quote a post from me to another poster, put it out of context, of course I'll duly respond.

Speaking of the Thread, anything, helpful, useful, coherent to add or is it going to be another day of sillyness 🤔

I'm heading out so just wanted you to know, I'm not ignoring you, will check back in later to see how your getting on.

They wouldn’t be portaloo’s. It would be temporary toilets with proper sewer connection.

Any one in hospitality sector will know these structures. Events, some race courses use them. Photo shopping portaloo’s in church photos is unhelpful.

What's wrong with not giving a sh1t about some stranger?

I don't care if shes 16 or 60, she has no bearing on my life other then to put more strain on my Government which will ultimately mean more tax and less wages for me so why would anybody give a f^ck? Call me an unsympathetic psycho if you like but the truth is, Irish people have had enough of everybody else being looked after first.

It's unfortunate but I don't see people getting up in arms over the hundreds of Syrians, Uyghur Chinese, etc. etc. being slaughtered weekly so drop the whole ''it's cause I care'' act. You only think you care because social media is telling you that you should care.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,325 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

That's fine. You can be like that if you want. As long as you are happy to receive it back.

Your own life decisions that leave you at the mercy of such things are your own responsibility. So there is no point whinging on here looking for sympathy about how it's affecting you, given that you don't give a sh1t about anyone else. Nobody is going to care about you in return.

A work colleague has a family of 5 Ukrainians living in their holiday home in Wexford. The Ukrainian's have been living there since April and he get's an amount of money from the government for housing them there which he hasn't disclosed the actual figure. The gas thing is the Ukrainians themselves are on holiday in Portugal at the moment and my work colleague hasn't got use of his own holiday home in Ireland. Apparently the agreement is to house them for the year be interesting to see what happens when that time is up as i believe the war will rage on for years yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 155 ✭✭I Blame Sheeple

    Nobody's on here for sympathy.

I come here to have a laugh at you and Dempo to be totally honest. I just saw your silly post that suggested Irish people should care more about people we don't know than themselves and their own families and felt like you needed a reality check.

Carry on anyway, your honorable and noble defense of these strangers is quite entertaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,325 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

Your inability to read posts is what is quite entertaining. I'm happy for you to you to point out where you saw me post that "Irish people should care more about people we don't know than themselves and their own families".

It is an impressive extrapolation from a point of view that it was better we let in a little kid and save her from potential exploitation rather than condemn her to a (probably short) life of it elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,070 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

Your work colleague made that decision so what's your point?

    Suit your own narrative much?

No, There should be checks done on all, but obviously kids at immediate risk, traveling in their company, being coached what to say etc. may throw up a few more.

Are you seriously attempting to defend fewer checks as being a good thing?

Again, he is now in Ireland and nobody knows where, because there wasn't enough checks. God knows how many more have got in without a 17 year old stumbling over themselves to have them caught and let go again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,070 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

Well apart from coming on here " to have a laugh " which in itself is a little sad, your only other purpose here is to declare that you " don't give a **** about strangers ". Well done.
