Mine took two weeks from when garda clearance came back but that was mainly cause there was an issue with the girls emails not coming through.

when I was called from the HR in my given department, I gave my start date as opposed to been asked to start on a certain date.

Will be starting next Monday in Dept of Education. 😬

Thank you 👍 Best of luck in your new job! it is a great dept to work in, was there for year and a half

I’ve now been waiting three weeks after Garda vetting finished, I haven’t heard anything at all. Is this normal? I’m eager to find out my department at least

Did anyone from PAS come back to you at all in regards to contacting your References? That could be the hold up, waiting on your reference's to come back to them. Either way I would definitely email your point of contact in PAS and ask for an update

I’ve had nothing from PAS since sending in my references, just sent an email asking for an update so hopefully I’ll hear something soon. Thanks for the advice!

    Hi all

This might be a very vague question, Whats the best department to get in terms of career progression? Is their a department in Dublin everyone hopes to get or are they all more or less the same.

Are you 97? I'm 91 but delayed with clearance on my end. Have you been given a start date or dept. Yet?

Can someone who is already in the system please explain what the following means:

The rate of pay offered will be €485.60 per week and will be payable fortnightly in arrears by Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) into a bank account of your choice, in the first instance and thereafter in weekly payments.

Do I get paid wk 1 and 2 in week 3 and then wk 3 in week 4 ?

Or is it wk 1 paid in week 3 and wk 2 in week 4 ? Its just a bit hard to work out what it means and I want to budget and have no nasty surprises.

Mine said the same. Wages are weekly. Your first week, you may not be set up in time and will be paid after a fortnight instead of a week. It sorts itself out fairly quickly and you should be paid weekly by week 3.

I started on the Monday and was paid the following Friday week - so the second week I was there. I wasn't set up on the system in time to get paid the first week. If you have previous CS employment you need to contact HR/People Point to have that added so that your increments are paid on time. It took 4 months to sort mine out 🙄

Thanks a million for the reply. It was just hard to work out exactly what it meant. The money will be welcome whenever it arrives in the bank!!

Anyone have any idea of where they are at with the Dublin panel.

Passed interview last week, was in the early 1600's.

What numbers are they at for Clearance? Will i have a chance of being called?

Hi, did you get back pay for the 4mths? Can I ask what's the take home at 485? With levies & pensions i havnt a clue.

Can I also ask do you have to join a union? Is that something that you have to do or a personal choice ? What is the uptake among CO? I don't want to rock the boat and me only going in the door. However from reading different threads here a lot of civil service people seem to have a very negative attitude towards their representation by unions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 125 ✭✭Red Honeysuckle

Why wouldn't you join the union? Most people do and forsa usually have reps in every building. Also get the income protection. Takes about €11 a week including income protection from gross salary so worth it as its pre tax and you have peace of mind if anything happens.

Income protection also covers a €7500 payment for kids illness too.

I had no clue about it thanks for telling me. I was never in a union my whole life. This is a completely new thing for me. I am no spring chicken and my kiddies flew the nest years ago and am striking out on a new path.
