It should be an interesting Championship next year, I don't think Kerry are good enough to dominate like what Dublin did. It will also be a good Division 2 next year with a Dublin Derry final.

I am surprised to see that Clifford is a father already though I suppose it would hard not to be with all the female attention that sort of fame attracts.

Flynn was a complete different type of player an all rounder. Did the dirty work covered the ground for the more flamboyant players. Plus he could take a score rarely wasted ball.

David Clifford - great player but is dependent on others to give him the ball.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Flynn was more of a Galvin type player (to make a Kerry comparison).

A workhorse. But also very talented.

Are you saying Clifford can’t win his own ball?

There’s no comparison in terms of skill imo.

His performance of fielding today says otherwise...

He is the most skillful forward in the country.

Only guy coming near him is walsh.

It would have won 17 of the finals played this century

Such bitterness. If Galway were the better team for that long they'd have got over the line. They didn't. They took on a Kerry team under massive pressure from the favourites tag and really went for the jugular and were the better team for the first half. And kept neck in neck for the second half too. And Galway are an excellent team and soon to be All Ireland champs, no doubt. But the better team hangs on and doesn't wilt. Galway wilted today. Kerry's experience, better management, better team performance and better bench won the day. The better team won, not hugely better, but still better and now deservedly All Ireland champions. Get over it!

    Kilkenny not far off either.

You could play him any position and he’d stand out.

I see Joe Brolly wasn't impressed with Kerry today. Saying for most of the game they were a 'mess' and were saved by David Clifford.

People have different views, some see this as the start of a period of Kerry dominance. I don't. Outside of Clifford not one starting forward looked dangerous from play. O Se went missing. Geaney had a nightmare. It took Spillane to come on to add a bit of life to the attack.

This Kerry team is miles away from the O Se brothers and Gooch team. They do not have that aura about then and i don't think any of the top teams will have any fear factor coming up against them next year.

They are a solid if unspectacular team.

Going to really sting for you when Cliffors gets footballer of the year.

It will be well deserved. Best footballer I have seen at his age.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭robbiezero

Could have said the same about Dublin 2011. Hard to know what will come from this team. I dont think they will do any serious "in a row" damage. But they will probably bag a few over next decade. Thought they were a much better side in second half, maybe the Spillanes will now step up and become regular starters, Moynihan etc. Plenty talent there, but it should be a competitive few years. That's a good Galway side, Dublin might have been only an injury away from winning an AI, Surely Tyrone come strong again with an influx of u20s and hopefully Armagh and less hopefully Derry keep it lit.

Fielding means something completely different to my generation. Taking the "mark" not what my generation meant by Fielding.

If Shane Walsh doesn't get motm well that's a joke. Clifford was very good but Walsh was exceptional today. Best individual performance I have seen in a long long time

    Clifford’s today were fielded though.

Most of the time, in the past catching a high ball, especially in midfield area, led to a free anyway if anyone even touched you on the way down.

Are you saying Clifford could lace Galvin's boots?

    Honestly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,980 ✭✭✭Lucy8080

Not sure about that. A lot of the time it got a roar from the ground and resulted in support play moving the game forward, by dint of the fact the fielder was given space by the ref to execute a pass.

I am a little biased though, I hate the mark.

Joyce is right. Not sour grapes. The ref giving that free the wrong way was the game changer. Pity it came down to that.

Sean O'Se, Paudie Clifford, Tom O'Sullivan, Gavin White, Jason Foley, Killin Spillane to name just a few were excellent when needed.

I do think a fully fit Dublin will still be very dangerous, Galway and Armagh should be there or there about again and I wouldn't be taking it for granted that Kerry will go onto dominate the next few years

He could lace his boots for sure, buckling his Dunnes jeans is another story.

The mark needs to be done away it. A point for catching the ball ffs.

It's only a matter of time before someone finds a 7ft forward to mop up free points to win games.

    Basic stats of today's final.

    1st half

    Scores

    Kerry 0-7 Galway 0-8

    Shots on goal

    Kerry 15 Galway 10

    2nd half

    Scores

    Kerry 0-13 Galway 0-8

    Shots on goal

    Kerry 17 Galway 15

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭robbiezero

Hardly. Kerry went 1 point ahead from it. If that is enough to see you beaten by 4 then you just werent good enough to win it.

Galway lost because they didnt have the bench Kerry had. Kerry comfortably the better team in last 15 mins, Galway lucky to have 15 men on the field at that point.

Joyce is clutching at straws. They had a great year but just werent good enough in the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭robbiezero

Worst rule ever introduced. Ridiculous. Cant be got rid of fast enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,097 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

And Galway are an excellent team and soon to be All Ireland champs, no doubt.

Mmm I would have doubt. With the new structure they wouldn't be getting as handy a path to an AIF again. And even with that they had to strain every sinew to get past Armagh who are what, fourth team in Ulster?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,912 ✭✭✭paddyisreal

Being a bit pedantic there, it was definitely a 2 point swing and a very odd decision. I've never seen a free like that given in any championship match in the 70th minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,235 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

If Clifford did what Shane Walsh did today then they'd be calling it the greatest performance in the history of the gaa

Cliffords reputation from minor really affects people's views.

I'm watching the highlights here and the only standout things Clifford did were the two marks and a good right footed score.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭robbiezero

How was it two point swing. The corner back was hardly going to score from there, at the time Galway were struggling to score. It seemed a harsh free but there was plenty of them during the game. Galway had plenty time to recover and pull the point back but in reality at that stage in the game there was only one winner.

    Watching Sunday Game now.

    Shane Walsh is some player.

Stephen O Brien the workhorse of workhorses today.

    Jack Glynn’s attacking runs. 👍

    McDaid’s midfield magnificence. (All Star?)

Paudie Clifford woke up in the second half. (Soloing technique is lovely)

    Jason Foley’s dominance of Comer.

Liam Silke’s dominance of Seanie Shea.

Galway keeper was erratic, Kerry have been there…Shane Ryan had a great game.

…Actually amazed he didn’t get the black card.

    David Clifford…

    John Daly’s distribution.

Spillanes in second half made a difference.

    Again…McDaid…some performance.

That free Killian won was a tough one for Galway.

The difference though having Killian rather than Geaney.

    Galway got tired?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,946 ✭✭✭MayoAreMagic

Ah but brolly, can tou take him seriously? He writes his articles to suit his biases. Surely if anyone was keeping a team in the game it was walsh with that raft of unbelievable scores?

Personally i thought stephen O'brien was dangerous while he was on, however, it is often the case that runners from deep are the ones who get on the end of moves against blanket defences.

Kerry were the best team this year. That is all thet needed to be. They might do that next year again, and again that is all they need to do.

Rory Gallagher on the Sunday game. Head is spinning like the girl in the exorcist with the talk of high quality, high scoring game.
