Cucurella had a better season for Brighton than Zinchenko ever had for Man City though. Based on last season, I think he'll be a great long term signing.

Lingard going to Forest might have a knock on effect too. West Ham want an attacking midfielder/ winger so might target someone like Oxlade Chamberlain instead, which in turn may make Liverpool move for a midfielder themselves.

Much harder to get into and stay in the Man City team than it is at Brighton Zinchenko would be first player on the team sheet at Brighton from what I've seen of both he doesn't look like an improvement at all.

It is harder to get into the Man City side alright but he will be the only natural LB in the squad. Then there is also the aspect of 'getting up to speed' of the Pep system, which Zinchenko already has and Cucurella does not. Cucurella is pretty handy on the ball so the technical side of it shouldn't prove too difficult. What might be harder to pick up is knowing when to move into midfield as Cancelo did last year and when to go on the outside etc.

Are City fans happy with the squad size? I think it was a little light on numbers but not quality obviously. An outfield squad of 18

    Walker - Dias - Laporte - Stones - Ake - Cancelo - Zinchenko replacement

    Rodri - KDB - Silva - Gundogen - Grealish - Phillips - Foden - Palmer

    Haaland - Mahrez - Alvarez

Out of those, only Haaland, Mahrez and Palmer (Zinchenko replacement to be confirmed) won't be going to WC (I think) and be expecting to go deep. It's potentially a long old slog of a season for a relatively small but very talented squad. A few injuries and the bench gets very light, similar to the end of last season but City still got it done in the end.

I'd throw James McAtee into the mix with those numbers too which makes up 19 outfield players. Is it a bit light? Certainly it could be, but we all know that Guardiola likes to work with a smaller group that most coaches at these superclubs. Ideally would I like to see 1 more attacking player arrive? I would, but he seems to think highly of Palmer and McAtee so if it stunts their development then maybe not and the player would have to be at the right level rather than buying for the sake of it.

Dybala to Roma is a good bit of business by Mourinho.

Dybala's been a weird one, the total lack of interest in him has been a bit mad. Inter were half interested it seemed, but couldn't afford his wages. Seems strange for a lad of his quality, available on a free, to not end up with any champions league interest. Did he just not want to leave Italy or something?

Or it could also be that no other clubs have submitted bids for De Jong because they've been informed that his preference is to re-unite with ten Hag if he does have to leave Barcelona.

There's issues with Dybala's image rights I believe, they're owned by a 3rd party and is off putting for clubs.

Article is a few years old so maybe the situation has changed: https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/what-are-image-rights-in-football-how-did-they-affect/1drdzc2ljhxhyz7goamk1q01l

I see Haller has been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Only after signing for Dortmund so that's a big blow for himself and the club. Hopefully it's a speedy recovery and not to long before he's back on the pitch.

Newcastle have a 17 million pound bid for Jack Harrison knocked back and Man city have a 30 million pound bid for Cucurella knocked back both are expected to return with improved offers.

Lingard joins forest 200k a week but crucially 1 year contract which makes sense and protects both parties in case of relegation.

A sign of ambition from Forest and worth a shot on 1 year contract.

Worth it if he helps keep them up.

I think Forest had done some great buisness in the window however I'm not sure about this one.

£10m is still a lot of money to outlay on one player even on a fee for one season, I guess if he gets 10 goals this season for them and they stay up they will see it as good buisness.

His goal and assist record for a forward is not very good 29 goals and 17 assists in eight preimer league seasons.

He also gets a nice free agent move again next summer with a nice signing on fee and big wage somewhere else.

Palace have signed Chris Richards from Muinch for £11m.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,227 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

Its not £10m. The telegraph are saying it's £80k a week basic which can rise to 121k a week with bonuses.

So somewhere between £4m and £6m.

Not a great fan of Lingard, but Forest are putting together some squad , under a good manager , right now would have higher hopes for them than my own club , Everton who without major change are heading for a relegation season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,875 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Even if it is the max 200k a week, I think Lingard is worth the £10m outlay overall. If it's the difference between 18th & 17th in the league, it's definitely worth it. It suits both parties really.

Nobody would bat an eyelid at a £10m transfer fee for Lingard, even before wages were added on top of that.

Gini officially not wanted at psg...toon return perhaps

Samacca moving to West Ham would be interesting. They need another central striker to rotate with Antonio, or even dislodge him long term.

He seems to be doing very well in Serie A, and was linked with PSG recently. West Ham have a knack of buying strikers who flip though.

Seems to be the fall back option if they cant get Broja. €30m mentioned for him which is crazy for a player with 1 season and 9 PL goals to his name.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,884 ✭✭✭Pogue eile

Of course the other way to look at it is that the only time he had a consistent run in a team he had 14 goal contributions, 9 goals and 5 assits in just 16 games. Great piece of business for Forrest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,487 ✭✭✭✭StringerBell

He had consistent runs in teams before, he also clearly didn't show enough to earn consistent runs in the team most of his career (he is 29 like) and the West Ham sample size is a bit too small to really try to read a whole lot into it tbh.

If the more conservative reports of the 80k per week and the rest of the top line reported wage being listed as bonuses and signing fee spread out over the contract then its a grand shot to nothing for Forrest. They have spent big this window and bringing in someone who knows the league and has that level of experience for under 10m all in can't be criticised too heavily.

I would assume though the expectation is that he will be one of the senior pros, a bar setter and big player for them. This is where they will have issues imo. The time to judge how good or bad a piece of business it turns out to be is at the end of the season.

It was only 6 but what other 20 year old was scoring that many PL goals for a crap team? I think it would be a great deal for whoever gets him. Lots of potential there, big, skillful and passes the eye test.

The Lingard transfer will only go two ways Brilliant or Awful

If he plays really well and they stay up it'll be brilliant anything else it'll be seen as a waste of money, i don't think there is an in-between,

He's probably had 2 separate good 6 months spells in his career , West ham & back in the 2017-18 season, (when he got most of his England caps )

I just don't see this one working out of Forrest or Lingard

Iv a soft spot for Forrest so i hope it does,

    Strangest transfer of the window?

And to buy either you'd be looking at at least doubling Broja's 30million euro asking price (pre-atrocity when it comes to Greenwood of course). 30m for Broja seems about right I think, given how good and impactful he already looks (even when he's not scoring goals), and his age.
