VIN number clarification

Hi All,

I bought Tuscon Hybrid comfort plus in Ireland on July 1st 2022.

After 14 days i waked up to check my VIN number and it says manufactured in 2021. I am concerned that i was sold a 1 year old vehicle.

Do you guys think otherwise ? i also saw there is some recall message when i did the check on VIN number.

Every dealer in Ireland said there was no stock until August or later, but this dealer said he had one in stock and i got it with in a week. Was i cheated with an old vehicle?

Am i allowed to post VIN number here ? is it safe?

Cars can take a long time from production to delivery, car could also have been sat unregistered in a showroom for a while too. Does the Tucson have the new model front with the funny lights? If so nothing to worry about and your reg says 222

Is it the current model or last years? Was the car already registered when you bought it in which case you would be technically owner 2.

Some cars were sitting months after initial manufacturer to wait until semiconductor chips were ready to finish them.

I would have figured this is normal. I had a car with a VIN that was 2 years older than it's actual first registration date. Your car was registered in July 2022 but could have been built on the 31st of December 2021. It is not unknown for cars to sit at a dock somewhere for months waiting to be put on a ship for delivery to Ireland.

Unless there was a model change in between the build date and registration date, I would not worry about it. If there was a model change and you were sold your car on the basis it was the "new" model and isn't... then that is a different story and should be pursued with the dealership that sold you the car. As far as I know, there has not been a new model Tucson released that recently, so I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Don't go posting your VIN online either......
