Wall repair at footpath

    Morning all,


    I want to throw a coat of paint on the house but not sure how to go about fixing this first. Would a mix of filler do it or would the wall need to be stripped and plastered again. This is the garden wall mind. Not the house wall.

    Did a similar job recently and used this https://www.screwfix.ie/p/toupret-masonry-repair-filler-5kg/893pp found it very easy to use and can be sanded why dry. Repaired a whole broken concrete pillar with a chunk missing and held very well.

    You could use sand & cement but you need to prime the area first. Prime either with a slurry of cementious water and leave for 3 to 5 mins then fill, or use SBR and let it dry. Do not use PVA.

    As the problem appears to be from movement (unprofessional random internet person opinion), you might be best off leaving a small gap at the very base of the render by putting a strip of wood or similar (~4mm) into position while you fill the gap, then remove the wood once the patch is completely cured.

    Then give the patch time to cure (a couple of weeks) and then prime (watered-down paint) & paint.
