Duty of care isn’t in the rule book.

I'd liken that incident to what you sometimes see in hurling when a player loses his hurley and the opposition player has the ball and goes to strike it. Sometimes the defending player without the hurley will jump across the swing with hands, body, even head at times to execute a block on the player.

There is no onus on the player striking the ball to avoid hitting the lad defending it. Comerford was brave to be fair to him and it probably not getting the credit he should for a great double save that kept Dublin in the game.

Its telling that other than a few head bangers on here, no one is looking for it to have been a red card.

I'd imagine they will be very defensive too. They have nothing to match Clifford and O'Shea, but if they can park the bus around them, they have a greater depth of scorers than Kerry so have loads of options when they counter attack

e.g. Walsh, Comer, Finnerty, Tierney, McDaid, Conroy.

Finnerty looks good in spells all right. Comer can be a handful on his day given a little space. But walsh is their only top top class guy. Disagree about the depth of scorers v kerry. I guess we'll find out in a fortnight but they'll have to come up with something and have a few more tricks up their sleeve on the day because I see a big enough difference class between the 2 teams right now. As I've said before I didn't rate Derry and they were easily enough found out so not great preparation for a final for galway. But galway do have a nack of winning finals once there in um, if that counts for anything.

That's interesting. I was actually going to ask this question when I saw the other posters comments about duty of care. Its the third time that I heard the phrase being mentioned since the match yesterday. One of the commentators mentioned it during the match (McStay I think). And I've read it twice since. Why is being mentioned at all. I was wondering is there something in the rules about it. Try explaining duty of care to John Small after he put Eoghan MacLachlin from Mayo in hospital. I don't think duty of care is in any way relevant. Otherwise John Small would have had the book thrown at him. I could be wrong though.

Yes against a team that won 8 all ireland in ten years.

The GAA rule book explicitly states that a category 3 infraction includes "Behaving in any way which is dangerous to an opponent".

If you want to make a complete fool of yourself you can pivot to try and claiming that doesn't mean a duty of care.

Seanie oshea has both feet off the ground when his left foot connects with Comerford - his left was sailing through the air after hitting the ball with his right and comerford is diving down at the same time. Comerford deserves more praise for the bravery he showed - SOS was coming in full pelt, ball was loose and comerford dived straight in. "Putting your head where others wouldn't put a shovel" as they say

Perhaps it’s Galway bias, but I don’t think they are getting the respect they deserve.

Despite seven minutes of madness, Galway have been comfortably the best side in Connacht/Ulster this year, having been up by six points plus in every championship game.

Paul Conroy aside, they have a young team, the oldest defender is 27 and that defence is improving every day (notwithstanding crazy finish to Armagh game).

Kerry are favourites as they should be but they won’t get it soft.
