You'd be raging if you were norrie and novak. Even less time to recover now.

I hadn't even thought of that.

I'm just raging as I'll miss it - because I have a tennis match! 🤣

I haven't seen any of the Rybakina/Halep match yet, but I assume it was the usual pounding power play that we're used to these days?

I have to say I absolutely loved watching the Jabeur/Maria game - it was proper old-school tennis that brought me back to my teenage days. Slicing, dropping, lobs - finesse and skills that you just don't see that much any more in the game of topspin hammer-tennis that's so common now.

I'm fascinated to see how the two games will match up against each other - although Jabeur is well able to turn up the power I think - she seemed to play a different game against Maria's old-school style.

I wonder what game she'll bring on Saturday??

Totally agree on the Jabeur/Maria match it was terrific fun...it would take you back to the era of wooden rackets (in a good way) it wasn't all based around power.

I think a rule change needs to come, for the Grand SLams at least, that if a player can't play from the 1/4 final stage due to pulling out, his previous opponent steps in. How on earth, or in the Universe could anyone with a brain have a problem with that.

Giving a player an advantage at this level, is not a level playing field. Kyrgios should be playing a semi, simple as.

I'm not too sure the extra days will help Kyrgios. He lives in his own head so much I think this amount of downtime will feed the mental demons he has going on. It will be difficult to maintain focus and keep adrenaline up.

Probably any other player I'd think extra days recovery to be completely unfair to the opponent, but Kyrgios not so much.

And when Djoko gets beaten in the quarter-finals next year, and ends up winning the Slam which puts him in the all-time lead? You won't be back complaining about how anyone with a brain can see how wrong it is?

Poor Timmy needs to chill a bit and drop the tie for the sweltering weather. I suppose he will be recalling all his semi final moments and defeats with Sue.

So how many games does Norrie win today? I'll stick with my prediction of 9.

Probably get more. You never know if Novak will dick around in the first two sets before going into top gear.

Two games in and a break for serve each. Strange start.

As a Djokovic supporter, some of the complacency surrounding his match today unnerves me.

Too many people looking ahead to a final against Kyrgios. Norrie didn't get to the top 10 by being useless.

Jaysus, I just got in - Norrie a break up 😳

    I was not expecting that!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,319 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Two breaks up!!!

What possessed me to arrange a game for 4.30 🙄

I'll have to record both BBCs and turn off all social media now!

Norrie looks on fire the couple of games I've seen.

Errr is Cam Norrie playing well....or is Djokovic having a nightmare so far?...both?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,319 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Looks a bit of both to me.

    A set up!!

Good time to bow out, catch up later!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,380 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

I think it is both....I suppose Djokovic comes roaring back (at least usually!)

But Norrie has a serious engine!

I am shocked he took a set tbh still

    Enjoy your match :)

    Nole looks stale here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,380 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

He does....but can Norrie keep it up? (Fitness wise I would say so) Sinner couldn't...

Djokovic has been abysmal on second serve points so far

    Norrie's BH is awful looking....

Not sure he has the consistent power to get the job done here...if Nole finds form and rhythm, I think Norrie is done for

    Go Norrie!

Rules change all the time, from tie break rules, time rules, you could look at the rules of today, and use them to cancel victories for Federer in the past, but no one is doing that. So I don't think anyone would question such a thing as you described .

One set a piece now, think Djokovic will go on a roll from here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,380 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

I would say so looked a lot better in second set

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,621 ✭✭✭Augme

Normal service resumed. Norrie struggling badly now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,380 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

    Djokovic breaks in third set....

Errr that kinda feels like that is that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,586 ✭✭✭newmember2

ah cmon...like ffs...are the BBC commentators in earnest or what, the dogs in the street could see Norrie getting nowhere in this match.

Djokovic changed his strategy from the start of the match

He tightened up his game and hit more conservative shots

    Missed too many aggressive ones

'Norrie is proving not as consistent so losing points

Not the most "beautiful" strategy but he had to adapt to what works

If Norrie is #12 in World Tennis, then the future doesn't look great for quality tennis, when the Big 3 are gone.
