Nobody and I mean Nobody answers calls from unrecognised numbers anymore. I've seen it at work in the last week with at least 3 people, all different ages, getting calls and saying "Nah, not answering that, don't recognise the number, they can ring back or leave a message"

Why did the Red Cross not leave voice messages and a number to ring back on if they were so desperate to contact potential hosts??

If people don’t answer their phone, how on Earth are they going to know whether or not they were contacted about their offer?

Do you still not get it ? They dont know , people were left hanging for months on end . They couldn’t get through to the RC . They missed calls with no message left . The RC announced that people were not taking their calls but still didnt appear to cop on and leave a message or call the people back . People who eventually after weeks of trying got through to be told the RC had presumed they no longer wanted to pledge . Making that presumption without even talking to people . One of the most incompetent shambles in a long time just when they were needed most is unforgivable in my opinion

Calling people ridiculous for not answering unknown numbers when the advice everywhere not to do so is insulting .

And by the way not everyone can answer their phone every minute of everyday which is why we have voicemail . But oh no not even a message left or a text to say please contact us on xxxx number .

Diary of a Ukrainian refugee: The next day we went to a birthday dinner of one of our neighbours and friends. Then we spent a couple of days visiting my husband’s parents.” Why are we still taking in so many refugees if they are heading home on holidays? Why are we paying them welfare to go return to the country that they claim to have fled? These charlatans must be deported.

What’s there to get? People come on social media moaning about the Red Cross/Army not contacting them re their offer of accommodation. Then admit that they don’t answer withheld or unknown numbers! Beggars belief.

I don't answer numbers I recognise tbh. If it's important they will leave a message or email me.

An amazing coming together of hundreds of volunteers from all around the country to get these houses ready for Ukrainians in a very short period of time. The folks from DIY SOS even came along too. Hopefully there's going to be an episode out of this, wouldn't mind having a look

I'm sure the Churches involved made substantial donation of their own money. Or are they piggybacking onto it ?

As others have said, they leave a voice mail with a name, what it's about and a contact number. If they had an email address for the person they could follow-up with an email too!

    Not exactly rocket science.

I don't answer unknown numbers either. Far too many time wasting scams going around lately.

Instead of blaming people, maybe take your complaint to the RC and the phone networks who aren't effectively dealing with the scammers.

Yes He does and needs to have his hand shook . If ever there was a moment our national broadcaster was caught out virtue signalling, this was it , disgusting and sickening hypocrisy.

I was actually talking about the lady you are following on twitter, she seems awesome. Fits.

As for that genius, not only does he think all homeless people are Irish he actually posted the video declaring it.

    What a cockwomble. 😄

I happen to know the Good Church of Ireland Bishop of Cork , Paul Colton, who served in South Dublin as a Vicar, absolute gentleman.

What a certain poster clearly missed was the fact his Diocese has infact being helping "Local homeless people for over 200 years " and this is a temporary measure and a reason to renovate 6 of the Diocese properties which will be used again for locals in time.

It clearly says that in the article so...... 🤷‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,199 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

And why were you childishly trying to present the article as meaning something else , another embarrassing attempt to bait reactions , falling on its arse .

I'm only surprised you didn't offer more advise on how these folks could reduce their heating bills.

I clearly ref the "Church" not Clergy or volunteers. Im sure there will be no credit taken by said churches in relation to this matter. I know full well at a local level individuals take care of their community via raffles collections and alike. We all Know the "Church" does not hand over cash easily. Not to take off topic but we have seen that in relation to Clerical abuse and the state having to pay.

How did I "childishly try to present the article as meaning something else"

The title of the article is "Home renovations under way in Cork for Ukrainian refugees"

The first paragraph states "Work is under way to renovate six houses for Ukrainian families in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, thanks to donations of almost a quarter of a million euro and volunteers from RTÉ's DIY SOS."

The following 3 paragraphs state the following

The homes are among 31 run by the Kingston College Charity Trust, which was founded in 1761.

Church of Ireland Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, Dr Paul Colton told RTÉ's News at One that his colleagues had been providing houses for people in need in the area for over 250 years.

He said that these will be used on a temporary basis for Ukrainians and will return for locals again when needed.

    and so on

In my post I stated "An amazing coming together of hundreds of volunteers from all around the country to get these houses ready for Ukrainians in a very short period of time. The folks from DIY SOS even came along too. Hopefully there's going to be an episode out of this, wouldn't mind having a look".

By all means, read the article, read what I posted and elaborate

You've had your response, I didnt lower myself to respond to the other earlier post about how happy you appear to be 7000 ukrainian children intergrating nicely into schools , when you know full well numerous people have children who they can't get into local school's. 🙄

Fully expected you to deflect given your inaccurate accusation and you didn't disappoint.

As for the kids, shortages of school places is a non-issue at the time of the school year when these kids would have arrived here.

Or are you saying that as well as their homes being destroyed, their chances of getting an education should also be taken away from them and they shouldn't have been allowed to enter the education system here..... just because? It certainly sounds like it.

I am sick to the teeth of this whole situation.

Spent 3 nights on a chair in the hospital with my son who has a torn ligament, can't bear weight and told he'll have to wait for an orthopedic outpatient appointment. Circa 8 months. Old men and women who built the country and paid their taxes sitting on chairs for days with not a place to rest their head or a doctor to see them. Sick of the back to school bills when the new 40000 refugees are getting back to school allowance and another nice top up of same in August now. Sick of the rising petrol costs, of paying tax and still having nothing left to enjoy life in any shape or form with a decent 2 income household.

Sick of our spineless overcrowded criminals in Leinster House. They don't give two fs about the tax payer, the squeezed and flattened middle income earners who are now in reality low income. We can help the Ukrainians but Jesus h Christ do we have to bend over backwards and take from the tax payer so blatantly. Uncapped is absolutely crazy.

Has anyone any genuine ideas on how we could put an end to this madness?

I'm seriously considering cutting my hours in work massively and joining the free loading life.

We were hosting a Ukrainian trio in our house. Only for three weeks, and I can honestly say it was three weeks too long. We’re permanently cured from willing to help these people. Too long a story to write on here, but it can be considered a horror story, the like of more and more that you hear these days. If you want to become an intruder in your own house, by all means, take them in. We’ve learned the truth about them the hard way.
