I am going to defer to the might of the Boards to help arbitrate on a matter:

There was a little ‘picture no sound’ at home due to a discussion regarding impending travel to France (on the 27th). I’d believe that we do carry on and just make sure the weight is ok. My current incumbent does not share that opinion and is resolute that the bags be checked in.

Can anybody throw light on the best solution?

    Which airline?

Automated bag drop with the two big boys is generally fine. Having to use manual checkin for basically anyone else is fraught with risk of huge delays. All the ground handlers are very short of staff it seems.

    Aer Lingus

Scroll back through @dasecuritytimes Twitter account to see last Saturday at that time for starters. Fast track in T2 seems to make little to no difference from reports from friends this week.

I was in T2 at 6ish on Sunday, no check in bags. Queue time said 35 minutes, walked in, up the escalator and into the queue. Took 40 in the end. I think that because departures is on a different level to check in, unlike T1, there's no outdoor queues.

Crap short termist margin obsessed micro managers

these people are utterly visionless and their success in management is measured in 'cost reduction'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,296 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

And this post is utterly useless to anyone who has clicked into this thread for the purposes of "travel" as per the forum title. As is this one but I'm posting it to help people who actually need to go through the airport.

Get incumbent to put out all clothes etc ready for packing. Put half in carry on bags. You're now good to go! Checking in bags ain't worth the stress.

Due to 3 members of our family catching different flights next Sunday morning, I’ll be getting to the airport at around 5am. My wife and I are the latest flight at 10:45, ideally we would like to check in bags as early as possible and go through to the T1 Lounge, anyone got any idea if it is possible to check Ryanair cases in that far in advance of our flight?

We left the bags up friday 4pm for 8 am saturday flight T2. Well worth it especially if you have small kids. The wait to get through seems shorter as they have you walking in circles for 30 minutes to go 20 metres as the Crow flies. Place was clean. Long queues for food. Flight was on time and bags arrived for all 16 people. Overall a grand experience

We have a family event Saturday which means unfortunately I can’t go up to airport Saturday evening to drop bags.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Jarhead_Tendler

I was blessed two of my relatives went up 100km both ways with all our stuff. We read the queue we skipped was 90 mins to go through so just allow yourself that time. If there wasn't a new born travelling we wouldn't have went up on friday

Can you check in bags for Ryanair the day before? I have two 20kg bags for an 11 am flight to Amsterdam... just wondering if I can go the night before and do a bag drop.

Travelling from down country early Tuesday morning, arriving at Airport at 4am. Flight is at 7:30 with Aer Lingus from T2. Have to bring bags to bag drop too. Ya’ll reckon this is enough time?

So it seems like security isn't too bad, it's bag drop / check in seems to be the long wait?

I'm off to London on Friday morning, no bags to check in so hoping I'll be through quick enough. If there's a queue outside T1 is it obvious which is the queue for security only (saying that maybe the give away is people queuing with big suitcases 😀)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,296 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

You go left into the terminal if no checked in bags and right if you do, it's well sign posted.

Btw I saw a tweet from DA security times to say the queue time is how long it takes after you scan your boarding card, so you can pretty much double any published peak time as the queues to get to boarding card scan are long too.

Can I drop the entire family's bags on my own and let the rest of them off through security? I don't want them in two queues. The kids are a pain in the hole in situations like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,111 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

Can you only do that early drop for morning flights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Jarhead_Tendler

After conferring with those more knowledgeable than myself they seem to think yes only for morning flights.

Can I ask about the bag drop the evening before the flights? How exactly does it work? I presume there is a specific drop off area for this? Anything in particular I would need to bring when dropping off? Do you queue up when dropping off or is this all before you meet the queues? We have a flight Saturday morning at 7.50 so thinking of dropping off Friday evening after work.

@lawred2 I think it only applies to flights between 5.30 and 8am.

There's this thing called Google, it's rather helpful 😉

Is Ryanair's bag drop really limited to two hours before departure? Given the unpredictable queues seems a recipe for missed flights stuck in queues??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,296 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

Again, Google is your friend. But no, 3 5 hours before in Dublin airport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,111 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

I found the two hours on Google

I found the 3.5 hours on Twitter

Are you going to refer everyone to Google? Is that your primary purpose?

Travelled out of T2 with kids on Friday morning.(July 1st).7.45am flight.

Dropped suitcases the night before. We got to the airport around 5am by taxi. For parents with kids.....we had one bag with us in the morning, car seats, as we are renting a car. They are in one big bag, so oversize baggage.

Husband was told we had to join the long, snaking queue to get a tag for the bag, to drop it, despite having dropped all the rest of the luggage the night before.I decided to let him do that while I brought myself and the 3 kids through security.NOTE!! If you do this, be sure the person who stays with the bag queue has their own passport and boarding card with them(if you check in early). The security guy said they had a passenger earlier who did not, and another who got his mixed up with his son's.

I have travelled standby for years.I figured it was easier for my husband to get on a flight by himself if he missed ours, than to try and get all 5 of us onto an alternative flight, if it came to it.

All in all, security was nice and quick, maybe 30 mins all told.Bag drop queue was about 50 mins.I brought the kid's breakfast food with us, we bought drinks in one of the shops airside.Queues for coffee and restaurant food were definitely not worth it.We had plenty of time, I'd say we were all through security by about 6.25am, including my husband.

No, I've answered plenty of questions on here but your post and the preceding one took longer to type than it would have to Google. That was my point. Some questions have definitive, official, answers. Not every answer posted on a forum is accurate and inaccurate information brings risks. I was merely pointing you both to places you will find the genuine answer.

TBF, though the airlines/airport publish information, we all know that is not always the reality inside the building. I know that Ryanair RECOMMEND you arrive 3.5hrs before takeoff, but I’d like to know if anyone has been able to check in their bags earlier than that as we will be in the airport earlier than that due to other family members having to catch earlier flights.

Hey I’m travelling from T2 on a Thursday morning in 2 weeks time. I thought security in T2 didn’t open until 4am has this changed to 3am now or was your experience a one off ? Thanks

Can confirm it was a shot show today at T1.

    flight at 19:20

arrived at 16:00, check-in not open ( only needed bay drop)

sent to area 11. , 2 different Qs for same flight , eventually at 16:50 , they said which gate. By 17:15 they hadn’t checked in a guest. 2Qs became 1 and the people who were first there had to join other Q at 18:00 2 check in girls arrived and Q moved. ( 2 lads who had been there were useless )

went to fast track, was told the normal Q was moving faster (40 minutes) go through security but laptop diverted , to screening. 20 minute wait as only 1 staff and lots of bags being checked

made it into flight 5 minutes before take off.

never got to use fast track or lounge. Lucky I get try them free
