Burning wood pellets in a multi fuel stove?

Has anyone tried this I know you can get a special basket to hold the pellets to allow them to burn, but would it provide any heat worth talking about or would it be like throwing money into the fire for little or no return. I might splash out and buy a basket and give it a try.

Why would you waste good pellets ? they're designed to be burned very efficiently in a pellet stove rather than end up with a load of ash in a normal stove.
Would you change to a pellet stove instead ?
