Is foxford the only place you can fish for salmon in the west of Ireland? Do you still need a salmon licence for this?

if you only salmon fish for 1 day, do you still need to buy the salmon licence?

If you only fish for salmon for 5 minutes you need to buy a salmon licence. It's the law. There are 1-day, 21-day and annual licences available.

The Cong River has free fishing and a good run of salmon. Lough Corrib and the River Corrib from the university upstream are free. The lower part of the Owenriff in Oughterard too. Loughs Conn and Cullin on the Moy system.

There are also many clubs and private fisheries with very reasonably priced fishing available from 20-40 euros per day.

I don't bait fish myself so I don't really know. Best fishing is from late May to late July. River closes 31st of August.
