    LOL, any link mickdw? Have yet to watch the 190 review but I had a white 190 myself and that car was as solid as they get, what a car for very little money.

    Enjoyed the vid John, I had one just like that in white, but the carb version and auto. Fantastic car, it felt and drove like a 1-2 year old car, not the 35 year old car that it really was. Utterly reliable too, would start first thing even if it hadn't run for several weeks.

    Eddie is some man.

    Even at the end of Jordan gp, it was rumoured that the state of the business was not quite what the new owner thought they were buying.

    He also pulled abit of a stunt with the access road to the factory. He retained some part of the access after the sale of the factory and blocked force India from using it.

    Still with all his stunts, his attempted lawsuit against Vodafone for circa 150 million at the time arguably was downfall of the team.

    I read that he is supposedly worth 500 million personally. I don't know how he would have built up such a fortune but not beyond him for sure.

    With every barn/hedge find and rust bucket on donedeal now at laughable prices I decide to find out of it's possible to take something left field thats disappearing at an alarming rate and to make a very cheap and enjoyable project........that is if I can get the car to start!

    The aim here is to show that even on a very modest budget you can pickup something interesting and make a very respectable project to be proud of.

    You DON'T have to spend a FORTUNE to enjoy cars!


    A huge thanks to a channel fan for contacting me and giving me that car which is now kickstarting this oddessy. And yes, THIS TIME, I'll be doing the work in so far as possible.

    Had an interest in these myself as we had one in the family and due to attitude of trade, the only option was to keep it going myself.

    Ours was an 05 1.8 petrol. Great car really with just a few minor issues.

    I had an 04 diesel one back in the day. Spent months searching for a ZT in the UK but came back with an as new diesel 75. Took a head wobble and sold it and regretted it ever since. Now if I could find a KV6 75 or ZT I'd be all over it. Lets see how this project goes.


    Yep, the k-series has well documented issues but it was also revolutionary when launched and still had impressive figures upon its demise. This one is diesel however and avoids those problems but has its own issues.

    With prices for interesting cars going through the roof I'm kick starting a PROJECT this week after a VIEWER generously gifted the channel a PROJECT ROVER 75! That is is I can GET IT STARTED.


    I want to see if you can still get an interesting and easy to work on project car and complete it on a minimal budget.

    I'm trying to think of the few issues we had with our petrol one.

    Window regulator fixed for 10 quid.

    Window switches again cheap.

    Radiator

    failure of washer system which needed a botch to get going but garage suggested scrapping the car.

    Fuel pump which actually wasn't the fuel pump.

    Head gasket

    Dead starter which was just connection at starter.

    Auto wiper fault that was down to stupid windscreen fitter.

    Leak into boot.

    That's about the total bar servicing after driving it from 60k to 160k miles.

    Haven't seen the vid yet, but previous owner here too.


    Leak into boot was very common, had that one too. And a faulty coolant temp sensor (you have to watch the coolant system like a hawk or you'll end up with HGF!!!), diagnosed and replaced that myself (had no money in the recession). I remember it was branded BMW or if my memory fails me there some other parts were branded BMW 😁 The only thing I went to the dealer for as I wasn't very handy at the time was a connector under the drivers seat got damaged because of daily moving of the seat because the car was our main family car and driven by both myself and the missus. Was €88 incl VAT. Not bad for buying a 5 year old car (cheapest in its class) with a poor reputation and keeping it for another 5 years. Was a lovely comfy car. Nice engine too those K-series


    @mickdw - didn't you fix up a load of these mainly as a hobby? You'd be the man to go to for John if he needs help!

    I fixed our own one and bought and sold a few of them after. Never had a diesel though.

    People were throwing them away at that time and they were plentiful so if a clean one was going nearby and driving, I'd take it.

    Generally needed nothing. I never had diagnostics and never needed it. Even the airbag light goes off itself once bad connection fixed.

    I did have an mg rover CD with all wiring diagrams, photos of earth points, connectors etc. Very useful. I'd pass it on if I could find it.

    Ah yeah the airbag light is the problem we had alright. Found the likely cause online (bad connector under drivers' seat), but didn't want to mess with it myself.

    Cheers guys, petrol ones were for nothing at one point. The leak into the boot is an odd one but I'm guessing it's coming from a failed rear window seal. It seems to be running down the top of the wing on the inside and then dropping down into a pool behind the rear light cluster. Looks like someone has been trying to chase it for a while. I reckon rear window out and new seal is the only way to go and new gaskets for the rear lights. Water has corroded the connector on the rear passenger side so it's playing havoc with the bulbs.


    Still haven't gotten to why the car keeps cutting out, doesn't seem to be a pattern to when it is doing it. Only warning that is showing up is the EGR valve.


    I'm downloading a program called Toaf which is similar to the MGR T4 system. Currently awaiting the arrival of the correct cable to work it. Fingers crossed that'll allow me to check the injection system and a few other bits. I'm awaiting that before I decide how to progress.


    Also need to sell a car although currently working hard to refuse to see common sense on that point.....Anyone know anyone who likes late 90s Camrys? PM me if you think you might be interested.

    Also, looking for panels in the same colour as the Rover 75. Some are dented and badly painted and I want to keep the refurb costs to a minimum on this. Let me know if you have any you are willing to park with or know someone who might be able to help.

    I'd be looking at the in tank fuel pump whether it appears to be running or not.

    It would be at least worth taking a pressure reading of what it's putting out.

    The petrols had a fairly awkward setup and I believe the diesels are similar.

    There is a couple of syphon type gadgets in there connected by pipes to the main pump body that can cause lots of trouble.

    Why not just do an engine swop, and leave the transmission as it is? The no modification done, no insurance issue?

    This is a free fix if its what's wrong. Someone literally pulled up, told me they love the idea of what I'm doing and then handed me a box of bits......including in tank fuel pumps.


    They also included the bendix controls for a preheated which I need to find now!


    As regards the MR2, I've found the answer but slightly second guessing myself now and thinking it's madness to swap the gearbox. I'll come round no doubt!

    The Rover 75 videos are good - as weird as this may sound, it is enjoyable watching some Irish lad mucking about with a car and scratching his head when it won't start. Like a less extreme version of Cannibal Cars!

    PS I had problems with one of my cars cutting out shortly after starting. Putting in a new battery seemed to fix it.

    Really enjoying the videos of the Rover. Funny how cars can get much more appealing as they get older, I didn't think they were any good when new but now I 100% see the appeal of them. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses!

    Ya the battery seems to really have a big impact on them. It just seemed one of those simple things to tick off the list really. As well as topping up the tank, while diesel doesn't go off like petrol the Rover 75 is prone to running issues once the tank gets below a quarter.


    Glad you're both enjoying the progress. I'm heading out to start the servicing soon this evening, grabbing 30 mins here and there so will take a couple of evenings to film and edit.

    Indeed in their latter year's, many were bought for their 2.0 ltr BMW diesel engine, which was then used to replace the BNW n47 horror story of an engine. That was before BMW decided to accept responsibility for its bad design.
