Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The McDonagh Cup is a competitive championship. Laois, Offaly and Carlow will be difficult opponents next year. Down and Kildare are improving all the time.

Preliminary quarter-finals cannot be taken for granted. The best scenario is that Kerry will give Wexford a fright. The nightmare scenario is that Wexford have it too easy.

Kerry gave Limerick a fright going back nearly 20 years. A repeat of something like that would be great. The McDonagh has been a great championship. The final was a cracker it deserved. Some of the late decisions when the game was in the melting pot was an absolute disgrace.

They will not give Wexford any sort of a game

They were on the lash last night and will be again tonight

    Might train once this week

Makes the format even more of a farce

The Joe McDonagh teams main aim is the Joe McDonagh games. The winners are going to taste 'All Ireland' hurling next year. Imagine a case of the JM winners been knocked out but the runners up end up winning the Preliminary Round and advancing to the All Ireland QFs

(Waterford coloured glasses on) but imagine a format of 3rd Munster vs 4th Leinster and 3rd Leinster vs 4th Munster as the All Ireland Preliminary Round. Let the Joe McDonagh winners and runners up relax

    Agree completely

If the preliminary quarter-finals are scrapped, the provincial runners-up should have home advantage over the 3rd placed teams in the quarter-finals. The McDonagh winner however would have to be guaranteed promotion.

There is scope to expand the McDonagh to 8 teams. The top 4 after 7 group games can enter semi-finals, with top 2 given home advantage. The McDonagh final could then be played before one of the All-Ireland semi-finals.

    Example 8 team McDonagh:

    1. Laois

    2. Kerry

    3. Carlow

    4. Offaly

    5. Down

    6. Kildare

    7. Meath

    8. Mayo

    Example Semi-finals:

    Laois v Offaly, O'Moore Park.

Kerry v Carlow, Austin Stacks Park.

Kildare were a step above the rest of the Ring this year. Offaly had to play in the Ring before. I think Meath who have been relegated this year are a step above the Ring as well.

The proposed 8 team McDonagh above will be difficult for the likes of Mayo and Derry. Similar to Westmeath and Antrim being in Leinster, a year in the McDonagh for Mayo or Derry should help them raise their level.

You'd have to wonder what's gone wrong with Kildare, hyped up and haven't hurled since half time in the league final.

Herity's tactics look outdated, maybe he's not the man to bring them forward.

They look a different team to the one from the league final. Any chance they might have had today disappeared with the red card after 10 minutes. Offaly scored the next 1-7 without reply and that was that. Kildare shooting was very poor...awful lot of bad wides and balls dropped short.

Kerry gave a gutsy display to grab a draw with carlow at the death ,carlow probably are a stronger outfit overall then Kerry but Kerry are still in with a shout so all to play for Kerry V Kildare next weekend.Kildare at home so Kerry will have more then enough to do to get a result

Carlow definitely after improving on there league performance

Looking like Offaly will have enough to get a final place and it's hard to predict who will join them

wonder what's going on with Down, they are gone into total meltdown..

Mayo currently 12/1 outsiders of 6 for the Christy Ring. Got to the final last year ahead of Derry, London and Sligo who are all shorter prices. Narrow defeat away to Meath at the weekend was not a bad effort at all....
