repairing strimmer cable

I cut cable on strimmer and am rewiring it back to the inside. i know the brown is live and the blue is nuetral but what is the black over them see pic with red arrows

is it insulating tape and if so is there any special type?

I will be cutting the cable near the red arrows and feeding in the new cable through the blacK tube like part. ca anyone see any problem with that

Thee black is heatshrink tubing which is used to insulate the bare connections.

The black is heat shrink tubing. Looks like a connector on the cables underneath that.

Electrical supply shops, screwfix, maybe Woodies, Builder's merchants, etc.

You won't really be able to re-use the connector as they usually get crimped to the wire.

Screwfix look good for that stuff alright. I use a heat gun designed for the shrink tubing, but careful use of a lighter will work.

is there no way to fix it safely without these connectors and heat tube. the strimmer is worth less than the products

or just put a plug on the end of the piece coming from strimmer- about two feet. and plug that into an extension

The best thing to do, if you don't have the tools is to use a Solder Sleeve. They get expensive doing a lot of wiring, but are the quickest fix. You'll need a heat gun too

You could strip and twist the cable and use insulation tape, if there's no mechanical stress on that point. A lot of people would think that wasn't safe enough though.

If I was doing it I'd twist cable, solder dip it, insulation tape it. But I wouldn't recommend someone else do what I do.

How come the brown cable goes back to brown after the after the shrink tubing but the blue cable is black after the shrink tubing? Is this of some significance? Thanks you all for replying

Doesn't really matter, but just keep them the same.

Pointed part of cable has sort of "squash" that indicate it is preventing wires/connectors being pulled (to some degree). I would solder, but even twist should do, electrical insulating tape over connection.
