It all depends on how much effort teams are putting into the competition. Tipp had a poor start to the League so have been inconsistent at times this year. Unless Westmeath and Offaly are drawn against each other, they are going to have a very easy route to the semi finals with the other teams in the Southern Section being Carlow and New York.

    Farce... Fermanagh away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,792 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

I could call that from Saturday. It's a joke. No different than Armagh and Tyrone drawing each other in the qualifiers. Go back over the years and you'll see a very high percentage of Ulster counties drawing each other. They need to get rid of them or you'd have 4 or 5 Ulster counties in the last 8 every year.

Noelle Healy saying the likes of Leitrim vs Sligo and local rivalry is what we want. No, it's not, we're sick of the sight of Fermanagh and it'd be nice to play someone different for once.

Yes, will be us or Fermanagh and one of Leitrim/Sligo from this side and Westmeath and Offaly from the other. Games in Croke Park on Sunday 19th June. The geographical split is a real piss take in this round as Offaly play New York & Westmeath play Carlow.

It's a pity the bookies don't offer odds on draws like this.

Still. Just need to go and beat them. All these games are about bringing in the team and they'll benefit more from it than New York at home i suppose

The bookies don't offer the odds because they know themselves exactly how it's done. No transparency whatsoever. Sure remember the year 2003 and the Dubs went out early in the qualifiers to Armagh. They had been filling Croke Park at the time so the following year when they were knocked out they got the easiest qualifier draw imaginable to ensure they got back to Croke Park.

It's a tricky tie. Fermanagh will fill the backline and try to hit us on the counter and win frees. Is Quigley playing with them at the minute?

Quigley is injured but i don't know whether he will be back for the next game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,893 ✭✭✭Dubh Geannain

He was supposed to be injured but played the weekend. Got 4 points from frees. That game will do his fitness good though

Kelm got their goal. He's another big threat. They'll set up for an ambush. Hopefully Cavan have enough about them to break the blanket.

They won't fear us anyway. They beat us last year and in Brewster they will certainly fancy their chances. Tyrone didn't have it easy against them. It's the most difficult draw we could have got IMO.

It's beyond a joke at this stage. In 2018 we got Down and Tyrone and 2019 we got Tyrone. As you said, if you go back we more often than not get Ulster teams.

Our record in Brewster is pretty good, barring 2021. And we could have easily drawn or won that game even though we were miles off the pace. Our tackling on Saturday was very disciplined and if we keep that up, we won't cough up loads of easy frees for Quigley like we did last year. Having said that, he had one of those days where he nailed absolutely everything (and we didn't). Surely having McMenamin in the camp gives us an edge as well.

Fermanagh will be defensively tighter than Down but we should have too much for them. If we keep our discipline, we will win it by 5 and Gearoid will bag a rake of points. We'll also make up for missing all those goal chances and rattle the net as well.

    I’d definitely take that 👍

We are as well beat them now as opposed to meeting them in Croke park

It'll not be a spectacle for the purists but they have to be beaten nonetheless and if we go in with complacency we'll be in trouble

Gearoid usually gets a lot of special attention against them so hopefully he'll keep his head and get a few early scores to settle him

You'd be sick to the teeth of these ulster teams... No chance of an ould road trip

Fermanagh are managed by the former Cavan Gaels manager Donnelly though aren't they? He'll know plenty about Cavan and our players.

I thought at times we looked fairly open again and we were lucky Down didn't bring their shooting boots. Don't get me wrong, the win was comfortable but they kicked an awful lot wide. There were times when they timed their runner well and he was 30 metres or so out with little pressure and managed to kick wide.

I'm expecting a Saturday evening game at 5 or 6.

It's on the score beo app

I agree, in the first 15 minutes we were pretty lacking defensively. The goal came from precisely that run from deep that we weren't tracking well. Down kicked some awful wides but we tightened up a fair bit (barring when we understandably took our foot off the gas towards the end). I felt it was as much about our intensity as opposed to our set up. Barry O Hagan, Daniel Guinness and Murdock are all pacey forwards that cause any team problems. Do Fermanagh have that sort of pace in their attack?

Paddy Power have it down for Saturday at 2. We may wait on the official announcement.

Whatever about the dumb way this competition is structured, if we can’t beat this Fermanagh team what’s the point of going any further.

It's on the official gaa website now as Saturday with time to be confirmed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,002 ✭✭✭celt262

If we can't beat them we wont be going any further !

Safe to say if we can't win the next 3 games we've no hope of winning it lol

    4pm Sunday now in Brewster

You could be forgiven for thinking we are playing Kerry in Killarney given some of the comments about this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,792 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

We’re playing a team who beat us last year and were a Division above us in the League this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,702 ✭✭✭tanko

I know but it’s a game Cavan should be winning. If we lose against them again it’s a disaster imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,792 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

In fairness to Graham, he’s four years in charge now and only Div 1 teams have beat us in championship. 2019 - Donegal & Tyrone, 2020 - Dublin, 2021 - Tyrone, 2022 - Donegal.

They wouldn’t have beat us if James smith hadn’t got sent off
