6pm flight with AL today, Terminal 2, hand luggage only so will go straight to security. Turning up at 4pm should be plenty of time, right? Last time I flew in March there was no queue at all which is why I'm always baffled by these stories of horrendous queues and people missing flights

Ryanair staff didn’t enforce masks on both legs of my flight to Lanzarote. Some people where wearing them but most weren’t. First time I had to mask up was in a taxi over there.

Out of curiosity does anyone know why there’s so many bags that look abandoned at the baggage area? There was loads beside Sky/Swissport desks, lined up beside belts and some just left on belts that where stopped.

A month ago the DAA said it was for testing, seems to me a long time to be testing...

A spokesman for the Dublin Airport Authority said: "We are currently carrying out some tests on a number of baggage carousels. To enable this testing, a large number of test suitcases (up to 1,000 pieces of luggage) are required.

"Not all of these pieces of luggage are required at all times, so on occasion it is likely that passengers passing through the baggage reclaim area will see bags sitting in the baggage hall."

I was in a queue similar to that Easter week, it took about 40 mins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,972 ✭✭✭mightyreds

I was there Saturday and it was similar, I cant tell from the picture, is the queue straight? last Saturday it snaked down by the front of check in 8 back up the back, then down the front of 7, like that all the way to the boarding pass scan took about 1hr:35

I went through T2 this afternoon. Check in queues looked very long, but I only had hand luggage so went straight to security. I think the app showed 10 or 15 mins at the time, there were only 2 people ahead of me though so it was super fast. T2 seemed a bit more civilised than T1 overall, not as many people around and more empty seats, cafes etc not as crazy. Toilets were a bit yucky, but overall it wasn't a bad experience.

I arrived at the airport at 5.30, no luggage to check, 45 minutes later I'm only at the part of security where you scan your boarding card. Almost the entire check-in concourse is one giant Disneyland-style zig-zag queue for security. And that's after the half-hour queue to get into the airport in the first place.

Just how many staff *did* the DAA lose over the pandemic??? I've never seen anything like this in my life. T1, fwiw.

This morning will be crazy with Liverpool and Leinster rugby fans looking to travel to France for finals in Champions League/Cup.

Jesus I've family members flying out of T1 for a 7.30am flight on Monday morning do I need to have them up there at 3am to start queuing? Did I read somewhere security is open 24 hours now?

The Minister for Transport is at his bike shop this AM selling bikes, the sole method of transport that he belives in.

I must tell my sister and brother in law to sell their shares in Glanbia, as the current CEO of the the DAA will be taking up employment there in September. After making a hames of Morrisons Supermarkets in the UK, and now the running of Dublin Airport, he surely is a certainty to do the same as Glanbia given the experience he has already accrued.

If the DAA is saying that the number of passengers is down as against 2019 figures, think its around 25% ,maybe more, then how come the airport is in a complete mess this year. I don't remember ever this mayhem back in 2019 with higher numbers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,297 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

Because their staff level is way way way down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,526 ✭✭✭Blut2

The government since 2020 has cut the revenue DAA receive from each passenger by 24%. The DAA warned this would result in a huge negative impact on services, but they were ignored.

That 24% cut works out to about 2euro saved for each passenger - so a pretty pointless saving for individuals, but it really adds up for airport funding when you're talking tens of millions of passengers. I'm pretty sure everyone in those massive queues would happily pay 2euro towards hiring more security staff if given the option...

You can thank the Greens and Fine Gael for it.

Sounds like a bit of a mess all round - getting a flight next sat morning at 8.10 - god knows what time we need to be at airport!

Flew out Thursday night. Got off shuttle bus at 6pm. Was through security at 6.10. The crowds after that were the biggest I’ve ever seen in 20 years of regular travel. Not a seat to be had anywhere. Just got an email from Ryanair advising us to be at airport 3 hours before the flight due to high numbers, so it’s not just Dublin.

Whatever they are losing on the 24% reduction, they are gaining it on the car parking charges. Booked to travel in three weeks time and Blue Car Park charges are horrendous. Charged over €100 for 9 days in long term blue.

T1 passenger numbers overall are only down 5% on 2019, with Fri & Sun about on par.

Security screening is taking longer due to increased levels of swabbing required, because of the failure security audit recently.

New screening staff getting up to speed with the job, which is very understandable.

Passengers who haven’t flown in a couple of years making basic errors with liquids, laptops etc

    I’m in the queue outside.

    Where does fast track begin?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,058 ✭✭✭glenfieldman

Flew from T2 this morning, was at airport at 4am, que was quite bad because out of 6 available departure gates - ONE was open

    The DAA are a joke

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,297 ✭✭✭✭Caranica

What do you mean by departure gate? Security lane?

I refuse to fly from Dublin anymore. There's other airports in the country!!!

My husband is a pilot and flies from Dublin. It is stressing him so much he is considering handing in his notice. On evenings he should be finishing work at 9pm, he doesn't finish before 12. Its the same every day. Luggage delays, passenger delays. He is left sitting in the plane waiting for the go ahead to take off. He is not getting paid any extra for all his extra hours each week he has a two hour commute on top of this. It is a nightmare.

Just through ‘fast track’. Advertised wait time was 1 hour, but I was 2 hours 55 mins queuing to get past security.

Run to gate and just made flight. No time for duty free.

Lot of elderly people in queues. There has to be a better way.

Anyways, no one worried about the cost of living here, with everyone going on holidays!

I’m returning this evening. It’s meant to be worse from the other side. Dread.

maybe thats exactly WHY people are going abroad for holidays!! Its half the price to holiday away from Ireland. The only ones who can afford to holiday here are well off tourists from US and Europe. Haven't you been listening all week to talk about cost of hotels, AirBNB, restaurants and car hire?? Go abroad and enjoy for half the price , a coffee in Las Palmas is 1.20Euro, here it is close to €4 if not above in places. Irish people are not fools. Stay at home and be ripped off, go abroad and get amazing value. Enjoy

    A bargain still costs money!

There are excessive car hire prices all over Europe, that's not just an Irish problem

We’re late taking off and according to staff on board we’re leaving more than 100 people at the airport!
