    Hi folks,

I've a long term power steering issue, power steering struggles to kick in on cold start up, it requires multiple restarts to get it to kick in, I've also had to recently recharge a year old battery, as voltage was dropping, im unsure if these issues are related.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

    Thank you

I'd be looking at the battery first as not holding enough charge to sustain the power steering, this could be down to little useage with work from home etc. You car likely has electric rather than hydraulic power steering, you will know this if there's no steering fluid reservoir in the engine bay. If you were to do a long journey of say 2 hours how does the power steering react at the end of it?

the battery certainly is suspicious, but this issue has been going on a long time, prior to the installation of the current battery. the car hasnt been used much since covid, which probably isnt helping the situation, but ive recently done a long journey, and the situation is still the same, still having issues on cold start up. again, it takes multiple re starts to get the steering to kick in. im fairly sure the steering is electric alright. steering is fine during journeys and afterwards, its only on cold start up. i dont want to kill the starter or ignition system by these repeated restarts, hence why i want to track down the actual fault. thanks again
