Best rate for US dollars

Hi All,

I am looking for few hundred US dollars (less than 1000) to take in cash for our holidays.

I found AnPost offering commission free foreign exchange.

Are there any other better alternative available?

Debit card and ATM in the USA.

Anpost are commission free but charge a poorer rate, however overall there's little overall difference.

I used to go a couple of times a year and simply used ATMs when I got there or credit card for purchases..

It's 20 years since I was in the states but there used to be a $10 fee to use the ATM if you weren't a member of that bank. Then you got stuck with the bad exchange rate that your own bank imposed.

Revolut card is the best exchange rate. Buying cash in post office here is probably the best option.

I’ve been to the states a fair few times and I’ve never encountered a $10 charge for an atm. $5.95 for one in Vegas the worst

No one can tell you the best rate OP as it changes constantly. Look around your local banks etc and a few online places to see what’s best when you’re available

Last time I went I took out 200 dollars in the airport atm (charge was $2) with Revolut and came home with some. Used the Revolut card to pay for every thing

I should add that we are more advanced in Ireland as far as contactless payment is concerned. Cash will be handy because in a lot of places you can tap the card

Never experienced that myself. A $2.50 charge is the max I ever had and that's just 3 years ago.

Exchange rate is fixed by visa or MasterCard depending on your debit card (close to mid market) and your bank will detail the fees they will charge. Usually 2%-2.5%

The an post money card might be an option, or as you say, a revolut card.
