Have you a link? Went onto his channel there and I don't see one. Was it taken down?

What exactly did he do wrong?

I like Harry's Farm - in the Cotswolds. Has been getting some fancy fencing done recently by a contractor - all steel - called Estate Fencing. Classy work.

All the youtubers have the exact same thumbnail style with an image with white outlines. Must be piss easy to do in photoshop or an online tool for it.

Ultimately everyone these days is doing it for money so can't believe what they say. The earlier days of youtube people made videos as a hobby to share info or progress.

I see Fendt were giving Youtubers a tour the other week. No doubt they'd be getting a nice discount on any purchases for an "independent review".

Fendt? I thought it was Claas?

If so easy to make money, can you link your youtube link?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,235 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

    Sorry Claas yes.

I never said it was easy to make money from it? I said they do it for money, not for the enjoyment of making the videos, sharing info etc. like people did on youtube years ago before it all became about monetisation and ads and views and subscribers.

You have youtubers in this very thread who have said they purposely make longer videos as the algorithm and clicks just don't compare to shorter vids.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,606 ✭✭✭kk.man

Well I hope they make a few pound out of them. If you were farmer Phil or Adrian the last thing you'd want or have time for is making videos for others to enjoy and u getting nothing. As father Phil says we could do with a few pallets of time.

The above two guys are not bluffers (I don't really watch the others) and I love their work ethic and passion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,235 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

I've given my opinion on those two before.

Just remember the two boys didn't sign up to boards for the love of discussion...

It was probably just a press release day for just Youtubers, sur Phil probably hasn't purchased a Claas machine in the last ten years and is unlikely to do so in the near future, no offence intended.

The reason for the longer videos AFAIK is because they can't monetize videos that are less than 10 mins.

I'd be hard pressed to remember a negative review. As far as I'm concerned, they are being paid in the form of free trials or free clothing as payment for their reviews, so be it, they've to put in the work shooting and editing a video. To be honest that's how journalism works, look at them wearing the different jackets etc sent to them by different companies. Can't chop off the hand that feeds you.

No mention of that tail painter when the cows showed up empty.

Everyone seems to be selling merch, hard to see how some will evolve/diversify if they continue their current operations as they will only end up repeating and repeating content.

Yeah, I'd say the channels have a lifespan so to speak.

Farming and contracting is incredibly repetitive, I'd say it will be hard to keep viewers engaged over a few year's as the tasks are fairly generic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭youllbemine

Hence purchasing of machinery that wouldn't have been bought if they weren't on YT. Gotta keep it fresh, exciting, keep the audience guessing. Adrian shows the same thing every year and at the same time of year too. He needs other bits to fill in between the repetitive stuff. Sometimes I wonder did Tim P build that shed for content more than anything 😂 In fairness he got some amount of videos out of it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,145 ✭✭✭White Clover

Isn't what we all do repetitive in it's own way?

First calf or lamb of the year, first round around the field with the mower, things we all look forward to every year. If it's what interests you,it doesn't matter if its repetitive in my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,376 ✭✭✭straight

Do you really think that the pembertons spent 300k on a shed just so they could make a few videos... The mind boggles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭farmerphil135

the Claas day/event we were at was a dealer and customer event, and the last day they invited us youtubers. its something youll will see a fair bit more of in the future is these days out.

youtube channels are no different than tv programmes they all have a lifespan, some people are diehards and watch everything others dip in and out and others get bored after a season or 2. and farming is repetitive by nature other than a machine change here or a different field there the principles of the job are still the same year in year out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭youllbemine

.... The laughy face was an indication that I don't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,235 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

They make money from views, sponsors and free stuff.

You can't trust any reviews as they're getting stuff for free/big reduction in price to do so so a negative review will mean they don't get any in future. Sure Ifarmwefarm literally said he wasn't going to give any negative reviews which was basically telling any suppliers watching that they could get a positive review if they wanted.

I remember he did a whole video on the decals for the hedgecutter and the whole video was basically an advert for the lad doing the decals. ifarm was saying over and over again yer man didn't ask him to do it but you can be sure he didn't pay full price for it. If you didn't know how things worked you could easily be fooled into believing every word they say.

And as for the merch, it makes no sense to me. Who in their right mind would buy clothes with ifarmwefarm on it or any youtube channel for that matter.

And yet you are here publishing your wise words for free while boards.ie profit from your work. I think we all know how these things work at this stage.

Don't go near the grassmen stand at the ploughing pussyhands, you'll need a few stents put in when you see the amount of dough they take in!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭Gillespy

They're all at it to some degree. It's whether you like them enough to put up with it. You will give a pass for the promos, the constant almost begging for subscribers and them trying to flog merchandise if the rest of the video is interesting. Same with the repetitive nature of the content.

Think I said it here before, having a good supporting cast, if you like, is a bonus for channels. That's where Phil has a big advantage.

I don’t follow any youtubers, I only watch an odd video on it based on the comments here. I could be seen as a bit odd as I’ve no interest in that type of thing. I’m not on Facebook, Twitter Instagram or any other sites like that. Boards is my only online presence. I don’t watch Netflix, I’ve never listened to a podcast etc etc! Basically Im old fashioned, I like to listen to the presenters on the radio even if they’re annoying, I like to hear the news weather etc.

So I assume I’m not exactly the target market for Phil, Adrian or any other youtubers and I absolutely mean that in no disrespectful way to the lads or any other youtuber that may be reading this, it’s just not for me.

But I’ll never understand the type of people like yourself Pussy that hate to see someone else that might be making a few quid somewhere that you’re not. Yea they may be getting sponsorship, free items, discounts off purchases etc. but anyone with an IQ above single digits already knows that and isn’t going to go running down the road to purchase every item they see someone else praising or recommending. If the videos are being watched and earning money why wouldn’t someone with an interest in it continue? If they make their own merch to sell then if it sells great, if not they’re left with a spare bedroom full of hoodies or whatever that no one wants. That’s the risk they’re taking. There are plenty of fashion styles i see people wearing every day that make no sense to me but if the stuff is selling it will continue to be made.

Moral of the story is if you don’t like youtubers or their content, or if you think they’re trying to scam you, or like myself you just have no interest then it’s very easy to just not watch them! Or if you think the money can be made as handy as that start up your own page and compete with them and live the dream that you think they’re living.

I was literally going to mention Grassmen is the outlier as it's almost an idealogy rather than supporting specifically a youtube channel.

Having a hat with ifarmwefarm or tom pemberton on it would be like me having a hat with Claire Byrnes name on it because I like her radio show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,585 ✭✭✭JustJoe7240

Can you break down that first point? I can't make head nor tail of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,235 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

No disrespect, but if these reviews didn't actually have an effect on sales then the suppliers wouldn't be giving products for free in the first place.

I absolutely have no problem with anyone making money where I'm not. I definitely have a problem with deceipt which is what some of these people are doing. In all the videos I watched of Ifarmwefarm, not one of them disclosed that there were any discounts or payments for reviews of machinery or equipment. I specifically remembered a double sided scraper for example that he couldn't help but sing the praises of. You'd have thought it was after inventing the wheel. It was plainly obvious that he got it for free, yet there was no peep about getting it for free. And if you think there's auld lads out there who are up to date with what youtubers are up to, you're naive.

And then there was Farmer Phil saying he didn't take a wage from the farm so please like and share because the few euro keeps him going. The same lad who's buying new equipment every second week?

I stopped watching both those channels months ago. Making money from youtube I have no problem with. It's deceipt I have no time for.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,235 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

Grassmen stickers etc are more of a "I love tractors and machinery" rather than "I like a youtube channel run by a few lads in the north of Ireland"

Having grassmen stickers is essentially seeing yourself as a grassman

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,585 ✭✭✭JustJoe7240

Grassmen is a merchandising company. Their business is selling goods. They're not comparable to Farmer Phil or the like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,606 ✭✭✭kk.man

Deceit is behaviour that is deliberately intended to make people believe something which is not true. - Collins Dictionary

That's a very strong word there, Pussy Hands.

I don't take a wage from my farm either what's wrong with that. I think you are reading too much into all this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,235 ✭✭✭Pussyhands

You don't make money from your farm? And where do you get money to survive?

I make money from it but I reinvest it in the farm. I have off farm employment just like the u tubers.
