    In a word - no

A carp rod is the equivalent of using an 80lb boat rod trying to fish flats off the beach.

Depending on the species your after, you will gear up accordingly. Trout, roach, perch, rudd etc - something between 8-30g max. And a reel no bigger than 3000 - 2000 is fine. When you start looking at bigger species like pike and salmon - 20-60g is good. thats all assuming your spinning, you can get rods up to 300g for spinning or trolling huge lures for pike. or rods in the 12ft 3lb TC range for carp, or deadbaiting for pike.

As your in around wexford, the slaney has none of the coarse species in it, heading to the barrow would be your best bet.

If you want to let me know exactly what your after and where you are going I can give you some advice on good gear that wont break the bank and some spots to fish.
