    Hi folks,

    I’m moving back to Ireland this summer from Canada and currently own a Ram 1500 5.7l Hemi, Bighorn edition. Love it to bits. I understand there’s a bit of a stigma for gas guzzling pick-ups back home but over here, they’re very much the norm. Would I be mad shipping it back to Ireland? I understand it’s left hand drive and will gobble the fuel but again, it wouldn’t be a decision driven by the numbers. Having said that, I understand I’ll have to pay some duties and potentially tax. I’ve owned it over a year so I might be exempt from a few of them. Second question, if after a while driving in Ireland I figure out that I was an absolute tool to bring it over, is there any chance to sell or would it be a write off? I see one on car zone right now selling for 80k which is nuts because I got mine for 60k CAD and mine is a much higher spec. Anyone attempted this before?

    Well fuel will absolutely kill you. I see it gets 14.8l/100km combined. At current petrol prices of ~€1.85 per litre, that means you're looking at spending about €27 (CAD$37) for every 100km driven.

    I assume the truck will have to be registered here and it will definitely be in the highest possible tax bracket, well over €2k a year.

    Nevermind the fact that it will be a tight fit on most back roads, never mind city streets.


    That said, they are such a rarity across the pond that you probably won't have an issue finding someone to buy it here or in the UK.

    Just to note if you are accepted for the customs exemptions/vrt exemptions you are not allowed sell the car for at least 12 months.

    Theres definitely a market for stuff like that here and in the UK

    If you are using it for business purposes it can be registered as commercial with €333 tax

    Just stay in Canada. Then you do not have to worry about selling it. I think left hand drive vehicles on left hand roads are dangerous.

    You could buy a Ford Ranger here or a VW Amorak they are big enough and at least they would have the steering wheel on the right side for Irish roads
