I did not know that. Interesting, maybe it is a more meaningful job then people give it credit. I wonder did he leave for a bigger job or was he released?

A shame that he didn't manage to teach wunderkind Smith how to kick clutch conversions!

Heard Sexton attacked Mack Hanson in the tunnel at half time. Anyone have any info?

Would explain why Aki was annoyed with Sexton in the second half

    Saw the following on Leinsterfans:

"Interesting side note, but we were at the players tunnel and JS and Mack H were having a right go at each other coming off the pitch at half time. One thing I heard, clear as a bell was JS shouted at him " Yeah....well, put it on Instagram"."

    Doesn't sound like an attack.

Carrick has players from north Roscommon.

There is almost zero rugby played in primary schools in the province

Kudos to Tiernan. Decent game by him. That said he looks incredibly like Rob Kearney in his last moments. Just catch it and take it into contact. When you consider how good he was at drawing players before finally making the offload it is a bit sad to see a player regress so much.

From the point of view of the two Leinster games, I thought the most appropriate comment was made by one of the commentators prior to the second game where he suggested that Leinster looked enormous. And they did

That is a good point but is rugby played in any primary schools in Ireland? I really don't have a clue outside of my own area. I can't think of any primary school in North connacht where rugby gets a look in. Kids naturally drift towards soccer or gaa. I don't know if it's true but have heard primary school principles get a ticket for all ireland finals as a pay back for encouraging gaa in their school. Even if its not true might be a good idea for connacht rugby to pinpoint areas to increase playing numbers and give a primary school principles free tickets or some kind of gift for having teams in a ugby competion.

To be fair it doesnt need to be played at primary school. The best GAA players always outplayed the rugby heads i often remember. A lot of top players have picked it up late teens as it not difficult to pick up skill wise. Most young players are picked due to size

I remember sexton complaining about Hanson constant playmaking role and taking the ball over him. He said it in a joking way but you could tell he was annoyed losing control.

The Instagram comment sounds like he may be annoyed by the media attention Hanson has got.

Probably another reason he didnt go on the lions as he finds it hard to mix with new players, Look at what happened in France they hated him over there

Ahh sexton is at the end of a good career but maybe can't relate to a easy going personality who also performs. Sexton is just highly strung don't think it's any more than that.

Theres plenty of it in secondary schools now. The game is growing all the time in Connacht. We are maybe ten years from really closing the gap with the other provinces. We'll never get ahead of them due population but we will close it.

I'm involved with Creggs and we had over 300 kids in mini-rugby.

In what has been a bad run of posts post game this is actually up there with one of the most stupid bad faith argument I've witnessed here. At certain points both TOH and Farrell have played to a level where the arguments have warranted consideration with the Irish team. But apparently things like injury or passing of time don't occur in your world. Must be nice

Squad for South Africa named. No departing players included, which I assume is by design.

Wonder if this is also a hint that TOH will be in the squad next season so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,322 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

I had the same thought. Might be reading too much into it but you'd imagine they'd bring McNulty instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,511 ✭✭✭Wegians89

Tbh I wouldn’t be against him being in the squad next season, he’s a local lad with a wealth of experience. He shouldn’t be first choice though and I’d be limiting his game time behind porch, mcnulty and fitz At 15

Right! So RK didn't age and slow down... and yet, TOH was not picked for Ireland. At times, I would have selected TOH, but he's fallen of a cliff.

My point was, Connacht play well and there's a chorus of calls for more international call ups. Yet, Connacht are inconsistent, mid table and have not played top flight European rugby.

To me, this year the problem is coaching. It's not the position in the urc or the ouster from Europe, it's the bizarre capitulation from game to game. Bizarre, imo.

This is a truly bizarre line of commenting.

By the very nature of sport fans of a team will want recognition for their players when they do well. Fans are biased and that’s just life, it’s the same for every other province.

Connscht have played top level European rugby not even a week ago, so don’t know what that comments about? Okay there wasn’t a competition after 15 minutes but the week before they were very competitive against probably the favourites for the whole competition. Earlier in the year they ran the the English leaders close both home and away, should have one at least one of those matches. Last season went toe to toe with racing in Paris. So to say they haven’t played top level rugby is absurd.

Yes Connacht are infuriatingly inconsistent but consistency will come with squad depth. I’d expect next season should be another step forward with some smart signings coming in. You just have to look at the financial and geographical obstacles Connacht have in front of them to see how far they have come on in recent years.

It stinks of petty bitterness goading posters about players like Farrell who were in great form 2 years ago prior to multiple long-term layoffs. 2 years is a long time in professional sport.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

I think most people think he has be in poor form and will be lucky to get another contract. Not sure where you are getting he should be playing for Ireland. Marmion should be in the squad and Prendergast will be in the future.

Prendergast is a great prospect. I think Forde will be a top level player also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Zeugnis

Greg McGrath is there as well, and no Burke, which is strange. Very conservative selection in terms of backs, only Bolton could be regarded as a prospect in development. Given how little there is to lose, the failure to take chances on younger players is disappointing, a trip to SA would be a great learning experiece for our recent graduates from the academy, but the only one selected is DTM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Zeugnis

Sounds like sentimentality, I think Connacht need to ditch this mentality. If you're not performing consistently, there's the door, our budget is too tight for this type of indulgence. TOH has won silverware, caps for Ireland, and 200+ appearances for Connacht, but he's also over 31 and not going to get any better, it time for Connacht to say thanks and we look forward to the relationship continuing in another capacity.

Who are our NIQ's for next season?

Tietie - not sure at the moment.

Leva - looks like he is staying.

    Big Papa - leaving.

Butler - I think I read he can become an Irish citizen in August.

    Shamus HL - signed on.

BOD - not sure what's happening?

    Porch - signed on.

    Anyone I'm forgetting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,369 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

Butler can't be IQ until he gets capped IIRC which isn't gonna happen so he takes up a NIQ slot. Tuimauga is going to D2 apparently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭KBurke85

No Friend said earlier in the season that Butler will become entitled to Irish citizenship in the summer. That means he will qualify for an Irish passport and won’t take up an NIQ spot. He won’t need to be capped
