Good to see Josh get start, that team at home should be good enough to overhaul the 5 points.

Just hope they stay calm and build a score from the start.

Yup need to be thinking of building scoreline rather than aiming for certain number of tries say

So the rules aren't clear, it says at time up in the second leg if points are equal on aggregate there'll be extra time.

If still equal on points by the end of extra-time it is decided by who scores the most tries in the match or matches including extra time.

This is so badly worded, if tied on points at the end of extra time what decides the winner?

Is it who scored the most tries adding them up across both matches? I would assume that's what it is.

Or is it most tries in the current match first including extra time and if that is a draw then include the previous match?

Munster have scored 1 try so far, Exeter have scored 2 tries so far, so it's important if this is a tight match that Munster gets at least 1 try more than Exeter.

Better to just win by more than 5 obviously and then it won't matter.

"NB In the event of drawn matches or equal aggregate scores at the end of normal time during the knockout stage, extra-time will be played with the exception of the first legs of the Round of 16 matches. If the scores remain tied at the end of extra time, the winner will be determined as follows:

    (a) the club that has scored the most tries in the match or matches (including extra time) or

    (b) if equal, by a place kick competition."

The team that has scored the most tries in total over the two legs (including extra time) will win.

Just reading the rules again, it is referring to all of the knockouts, hence the "match or matches" part meaning in the two-leg Rof16, and the 1/4f and the 1/2f and the final.

So yes, the tries scored criterion is over the two legs including extra time.

So, Munster need to be careful to not end up drawing without scoring an extra try at least more than Exeter.

Expecting a big win for Munster

Nah he doesn't look like a player who's ready to retire just yet, I'd say like Sexton he may target the RWC squad and if he fails to make it he may retire then, he only needs one more season to get there so I cant see any reason why he wouldn't target it unless his body isn't up to it which based on this season certainly isn't the case!

Didn't know there was talk of Earls retiring, he still seems in very good knick, still has the yard of pace.

It's a good opportunity for Hodnett to show the value of a proper openside with Exeter going for a blindside who's played some lock at 7.

Will Munster be at home in the next round? Munster can beat any team on route to the final by the look of the games over the weekend. Would be funny if van gran was the man to win Europe

Munster v Toulouse with Munster getting home venue.

Incredibly, Thomond Park will not be available for it so it’ll almost certainly be in the Aviva.

Munster have a great chance of beating Toulouse

Exeter will run going to the corner so often in the 1st match! Shocking tactics! I really did rate Baxter but, jaysus!

The Earls tackle in sandy Park was the moment of the tie

Exeter would have taken points from some opportunities at Thomond inside of running up blind alleys all day. Not once did they try a chip over the top or a Cross field kick to try and pose questions of Munster. Played into Munsters hands.

Murray kills Munster. We got to see glimpses of what they are capable of with Haley and Casey at 9. High tempo game giving their backs an extra second.

You talk up Earls try saving tackle but ignore Murray's. They both saved our bacon last weekend.

If you don't like Murray then fair enough but at least credit him the same way you credit another player for the same play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Defence is not the issue. Its in attack. And IMO he is killing Munsters attack by being far too slow.

The Earls tackle was a huge momentum shift in the tie IMO.

It's hard to believe that over a 2 leg fixture, that kicking penalties is not a priority! If Exeter had kicked a couple in the 1st match, their margin would have been bigger and force Munster into a much harder position.

I'd say the same for any side. Take the points available! Put scoreboard pressure on your opponents.

I’d largely agree, but their place kicking was awful over the 2 legs tho. I’m not sure the “taking the points” was guaranteed for them. They must’ve missed 4,5 kicks or more I think?

Simmons missed every single kick he took in the two legs, and they must have refused about 6 or 7 kickable pens over the two legs.

Baxters stock for next England coach has taken a huge nose dive in the last two seasons

You still can't bring yourself to credit his try saving tackle.

Was it actually two tries he prevented in Sandy Park?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Carberry is a great place kicker. He is so smooth. Seriously good weapon to have. Exeter on the other hand...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,882 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

Pretty classy offload by Zebo. Munster need to get the ball out to him more. And they could get him involved as a playmaker in midfield like Ireland use Lowe or Hansen and Leinster use Lowe and JOB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

Same way you can’t bring yourself to acknowledge the other part of his post. Murray’s try saving effort was brilliant. But over both legs, he absolutely crippled Munsters attacking chances. When your 15 can bring a higher tempo and accuracy to your attack, than your 9. There’s a very obvious issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 26,512 ✭✭✭✭phog

Munster had a different game plan with Murray starting & it worked.

It's mad some people seem to think "quick ball" is the only attribute that can be used to measure a 9's ability.

Murray was all over the game yesterday, in the refs ear at every break in play, he pointed something out in a long break and the ref called over the Exeter captain and had a good chat with him.

Most of the options he took were spot on, even the yellow card was one every player would risk.
