What does a pilot’s week look like?

Of course this is a “how long is a piece of string question”, obviously there’s differences between pilots operating ATRs around the CTA and pilots operating ultra long haul for SIA from Changi.

What would a week’s work look like for someone operating ATRs for Emerald Air formerly Stobart? How many flights per week, start finish time, how far in advance do they get rosters.

Same for FR operating longer routes throughout Europe and to Northern Africa.

Same question for ultra long haul pilots flying between Singapore and the US, Singapore to Europe etc (or any pilot type rated on A340, or long haul planes).

The long haul one looks tough. I thought it might be an overnight at most.

How do the EI pilots flying to SFO or LAX work? What about the cabin crew?

EI operate daily to both cities, so it’s a 24 hours turnaround for both pilots and cabin crew. (LAX restarting in May)

Short haul guys will have a fixed roster. 4 on 4 off or 4 on, 3 off. Depending on the airline.

Long haul, well thats a cluster**k!

A lot of airline rosters operate on a two-week cycle and also involved fixed time off periods such as having to take leave in the off season or having to bid for leave as early as possible in the year.

Life in the corporate world, last month 11 days 9 African countries, responsible for literally everything from flying the aircraft, to cleaning it, fuelling, catering, loading baggage, PR with the passengers, maintenance planning, route planning, picking the hotels.

Luckily we have departments that actually make the catering orders, arrange fuel payments, overflight and landing clearances, diplomatic clearances if required, permits for guns, transport to/from hotel, armed guards and arranging the lovely hotel suite that I finally get to relax in.

My pre retirement job would be flying Dublin Cork 4 on 4 off.
