Sick leave collided with Parent's leave

Hi.

I didn't find anywhere publicly whether Parent's leave can be suspended for the period of sick leave if sick leave occurred during scheduled Parent's leave? I did find on citizeninformation that is applicable to Parental leave, but no word about sick/illness on Parent's leave page.

Technically my Parent's leave is about to start from tomorrow and today I got positive Covid19. Temperature, headache and weakness are all hit me so I cannot be with the child while I am sick.

Any advise from those who were in similar situation?

You would not be applying for sick leave of illness benefit in this scenario, you maybe thinking about enhanced illness benefit (Covid) .

The rules on eligibility have changed a number of times so I'll just post a link but read carefully.

Keep in mind if in receipt of an existing SW payment, I've seen it causes additional delays and requires manual intervention, also note the new rule if you have been Boosted.

Thank you, but that article you referred me to isn't highlighting other statutory 'leave', it only says about the situation if enhanced illness benefit is colliding with other payments from DSP. It is 'yes' and 'no' - I will be getting paid from social welfare, but I will be getting paid for being not at work and to be with the child (that's the statutory rule that this particular time off MUST be used for taking care of the child); but I won't be at work for different reason now - due to illness. So I am wondering if that scheduled Parent's leave of being off work can be suspended/moved to other days since currently scheduled dates are going to be 'spoiled' by covid19? :(

Apologies, my knowledge is more about EIB and not parental leave , hopefully someone with experience of this will come back to you.

I also just wanted to point out there has been a lot of posts re and existing SW payment colliding with EIB if you were applying for this.

As far as I know they can change the dates on the Parents Benefit OP but you would need to contact the section directly by phone. Once they have that done for you, you can apply online for the Enhanced IB via mywelfare. But Parents Benefit will have to close off your claim for this period to avoid any overlaps.

This should be covered in your own contract. Have you checked there? Is your concern about payment or losing the days?

Yeah no mention in the contract, not for Parent's nor for Paternity/Parental leaves. I think that is something to what general rules should be applying, not company specific, but I might be wrong. My concern about the Parent's days which I can miss due to illness. Thank you!

Would you believe this^^^is parental leave, and the OP is currently on Parents leave, and they’re 2 different “leaves”. 🤨 .I know. Totally confusing.

Just to confirm - got confirmation from both my HR and from DSP that there is no problem with cancelling Parent's leave benefit even if it's already started.

Just need to send details to parentsben@welfare.ie with PPSN and old&new dates so they can rebook that in the system on your behalf.
