Import Furniture from UK

If I purchase 2nd hand furniture in a UK shop and drive back with it in my car on the ferry, do I pay import duty or taxes? How does that work? Thanks in advance.

So do you think I will have to pay taxes and duty? Surely 2nd hand furniture can be argued that it has been owned previously? Thanks

Only seeing this now but yes, customs duty has to be paid on anything you buy and import in from a non EU country

Would that apply even if, say, your had siblings in the UK who gave you the stuff or if you previously lived in the UK and were moving all your stuff back?

You would need to speak to customs about that, you would be stopped at the port either way.
