I think that Exeter are more likely to win at home this week-end , but if Munster can keep the gap down, i.e. "Losing Bonus point" range then I think it's there for the taking the following week.

They have to be smart and think about the two fixtures as a single entity . They should be taking points when on offer and not kicking for the corner etc.

For example , if they are 8-10 points down with 10 minutes to go and get a kickable Penalty , they should take the points and not chase the win at the expense of the aggregate score possibilities.

    Carbery.

Pretty much all the munster pundits are calling for it now.

    Carbery. His 15 was:

    1. Josh Wycherly
    2. Scannell
    3. Archer
    4. Fineen Wycherly
    5. Kleyn
    6. POM
    7. JOD
    8. Kendellen
    9. Casey
    10. Healy
    11. Zebo / Haley
    12. DDA
    13. Earls
    14. Daly
    15. Carbery

Completely agree, tbh. There's no win available, in a sense this, weekend. Two mins to go, down by 6 and winning a kickable penalty? I'd be taking the 3 all day long there.

Uhh, don't think I'd be putting Carbery at 15 ahead of Haley tbh.

Yeah I dunno, apparently Carbery is out injured anyway so.

Haley has played on the left wing a bit, I think. Maybe once for Munster. Probably more for Sale.

If he has, it's filling in during a match Richie, as he certainly hasn't started any games there.

In his 4 seasons at Munster, Mike Haley has never started in any position other than 15. He's never been on the bench. He start's at 15 or he's not in the squad.

Haley came onto the wing for Ireland I think?

RWC warmup against Italy, replaced Conway on the right wing.

I can't understand why any Munster fan would call for Chris Farrell to be dropped

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 26,513 ✭✭✭✭phog

If Zebo and Conway are out and Carbery is available then there might be some merit in trying Haley on the wing with Joey at FB and Healy at outhalf to get the best on the field but I don't see it happening.

Why not have Carberry on the wing? Why drop Loughman? It's strange to be calling for a really good fb to be moved. It's bizarre to have Farrell dropped completely.

Because Carbery isnt a wing, hasnt ever really played there.

My guess at Van Graan’s likely 23, a pretty good team I think:

    Loughman, Scannell, Archer,

    Jenkins, Kleyn,

    O’Mahony, O’Donoghue, Cloete,

    Murray, Carbery,

    Zebo, De Allende, Farrell, Earls,

    Haley.

Reps: Barron, Wycherley, Ryan, Wycherley, Hodnett, Casey, Healy, Daly.

Because he's absolutely in no universe a winger? These positions are not all randomly interchangeable. Carbery would be a second playmaker at FB but he is not a finisher

POM's comments aside (which were significant but still understated), Quinny and Wood now really beating around the bush in interviews in relation to the coaching situation is ignoring reality and they both definitely know better.

What the hell are Nucifora and Munster branch at leaving things run to this stage. It suggests a lack of interest on a problematic scale that a club of the stature of Munster aren't attracting talent and I'd rather they took a risk on a promising but maybe untested option at this stage rather than leave the current situation further stagnate. Maybe there will be a good and fair excuse on the flip side of all this but the optics are terrible and Ireland needs a strong Munster and someone that can manage that emerging talent base well. If they have someone confirmed that is waiting until season end to announce then Munster should say they have secured a management team and should have the clout to demand that of any conversations they are having.

The reality is that the optics now say there isn't someone forthcoming and that's a rejection of the squad that the IRFU and Munster need to be managing a lot better because there is still a season in play. I refuse to believe there isn't a promising forward, back or assistant coach somewhere in England or France that isn't worth a un-refusable offer.

Big question is what's going on in Rowntree's head in all this also.

There's so much wrong with this that I'm not going to even try and go through it piece by piece.

Tickets for the home leg seem to be selling very poorly, is that people waiting until after the game on Saturday or is there just no interest?

It would be disappointing to not get a serious crowd, given that it's our first knockout game in Thomond (with fans) since Toulon 4 years ago.

Loughman, Scannell, Archer, Kleyn, Wycherley, POM, AK, JOD, Murray, Healy, Earls, DDA, Farrell, Zebo, Haley

If that's right, I'd be happy enough, Healy is there on merit even if Joey is injured.

You’ve got Zebo on the wrong wing, he’s an 11, left wing, Earls would be 14, on the right.

I hope Carbery’s not injured but Healy is a good replacement, and if Jenkins is fit he’s surely got to start?

Kendellen over Hodnett is a close call, I’d expect Cloete to start though.

    Really?

If you disagree so readily surely a counter should make for some easy typing?

And I wrote that post as someone with a vested interest in Munster succeeding so at this point in time your post is more reflective of you than me.

Or maybe, they have the ticket in place and want to keep it under wraps so as not to take focus off the upcoming games, might have learnt a lesson from JVG announcing so early.

Very possible the coaches involved don't want it announced yet either.

Yeah as I said in my original post, there is potentially a viable reason for it - but if you now have the club captain saying the situation is not ideal, and noted former players and current commentators dancing around the real actual optics of the situation, it's absolutely becoming a problem and one that needs to be addressed with urgency.

The coaches involved shouldn't be deciding who has a say in it - Bath didn't give a sh1t announcing Van Graan and if it's the case it's more kowtowing in my opinion.

Would be a little weird. The more likely scenario is they don't have one - I can't see a single benefit to making it seem like you are coachless in a couple months.

If I was going to reply, I'd have replied to your initial post.

Goading won't encourage me to reply to the tripe in your initial post.

The game v Leinster last weekend had a crowd of just over 20k. I think there's a number of factors at play here

COVID is still a thing and I think a lot of people are either isolating or afraid of catching it

The weekend in question is a bank holiday weekend, communions, confirmations etc etc

Munster are playing like doggy poo at the moment, JVG is packing up his bags, the mood in general isn't good for Munster fans, especially for the fair weather ones

Some people might think that they have this game already on their season ticket as season tickets before had 3 European games. This could result in people showing up to the gate, realising their mistake, scrambling to the mobile ticket office and the game could sell out a few hours before kick off...

Ok I admit that last idea was more in hope than any particular chance at even the most narrow possibility but who doesn't like a bit of humour

Plenty teams who would kill for a 20k crowd. Munster have plenty problems, but not sure that is one of the main ones.

Fair enough. I wasn't goading you - I just think your initial reply was remarkably childish, borderline denialism and more than a bit dismissive of a post made in good faith. Each to their own.
