Must see recommendations for Yosemite Park with kids

I'll be in Yosemite (staying just outside one of the southern entrances) for a couple of days in June with the kids (10 & 13)

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for must see or do activities while in the park ? It seems like without some planning as to what to do you could end up wasting a lot of time.

How much hiking are you planning to do with them? If you're not going "up", you could easily see most of Yosemite Valley in a day, I think, if you rent bikes, plus bridal veil is a very short easy walk.

I think I'd recommend the vernal falls hike (bring a poncho) if you're only doing one big walk.

Glacier point is worth the drive for the views, though traffic will be ugh.

Mariposa Grove is worth a spin too - there's a fallen tree that you can walk/crawl through the length of, which is good fun.

Bit left field, and not sure if itinerary fixed, but a drive over Tioga Pass and overnight in Mammoth Lakes would be lovely.

The Pass should he open in June, and is a spectacular drive. At 3000m it's highest most people will ever drive, you will probably see snow on verge.

Mammoth Lakes is lovely, and as it's mainly a ski resort good accommodation in June could be very reasonable. Plenty hikes there. As an added bonus (for some anyway) the probability of experiencing a little earthquake there is very high. From earthquaketrack.com:

Mammoth Lakes has had: (M1.5 or greater)

    • 5 earthquakes in the past 24 hours
    • 8 earthquakes in the past 7 days
    • 32 earthquakes in the past 30 days
    • 624 earthquakes in the past 365 days

(I was unaware of frequency when there- when a 2.0 hit after breakfast we ran outside, as did a few, worried looking, tourists. As for locals...one looked annoyed his coffee spilled on roof of his truck. My one and only earthquake experience/story!)

Cheers for that. There won't be many long hikes with the kids - as much as they like being outdoors a couple of hours of walking will be enough and when on holidays as long as the kids are enjoying themselves generally everyone is.

Maripose Grove looks idea ... the hotel we are staying at have some nice sounding tours as well - one is a 9 hour that takes in quite a bit, which might suit the kids a lot better.
