Anyone have any idea why the Stelvio Pass is been cleared of snow so early this year.
Its usually June 1st ish.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the station with the record for the deepest lying snow (Sukayu, 550 cm in 2013) has finally hit 0 cm lying snow today after a max of 439 cm on 7th February this year. It's the last of the dense AMEDAS station network to report zero lying snow.
This station gets so much snow that the rain and temperature sensors are sited 6 metres above the ground.
i don't think stelvio features in this year's giro d'italia.
There's a bit of a heatwave in that area. Bormio was in the high 20s this week
There's much, much less snow in the southern slopes of the Italian alps this year compared to previous years.
In fact the Po is so low in flow that it's currently at about 1/5 the normal for this time of the year, and it'll only get lower. The north of Italy is facing a proper drought, with significant reductions in wheat and rice yields this year.
